parkerizing my old 303

I have a old pattern-14 303, that has been sporterized and I am hoping to make it a nice shooter.
I was thinking about parkerizing it. I was just wondering if I can expect any concerns.
How thick is parkerizing? Can I parkerize all the smallmisc. pieces. Or will there be fittment problems.

If you can boil water, you can parkerize. I don't think that the phosphating action (etching the metal) will thicken the metal by 1 thou or 0.001", it just roughs it up so that the oil will remain on the surface longer.

Just wear safety glasses when you strip the metal down (1 part water : 1 part Muriatic Acid ).

You have not told us if you have any experience parkerizing... I'll just shut up !

It's dead easy. Once I get my new subdivision house set up this summer, I've got my M1 Garand to drop into the tank. yuk yuk yuk

The parkerizing won't effect the parts too much and what it does affect will wear off. You'll likely notice a stiffer bolt or other moving parts but it will lossen up nicely after oiling and a bit of use.

I've never had a problem with it.

Shoot it first. Parkerizing doesn't do anything but protect the steel. It won't do anything to improve accuracy.

I would suggest not parkerizing the bore or chamber.

Weren't P14's blued firearms? It might look more right blued?
My gunsmith told me if he powder blasts a gun then puts it in the bluing tank, it looks like that greyish finish like early LB rifles had...

Changing the finish of a milsurp firearm isn't going to add any value to it IMHO. It might look better and fresher but not worth more, and maybe worth less.

If it's a bubba, it won't matter.

Parkerizing a bubba is a great idea for a hunting rifle. I find it much more effective than blueing.
