Shilen definitely makes some fantastic rimfire barrels and have done very well in BR50 competition in the US

would that barrel have shot equally well using the factory install? I suspect it would have shot just as well... but getting rid of slop between barrel and action rarely hurts.

Once in a while I think about using a Loc-tite 6xx retaining compound for gluing the Lilja barrel to the 457 receiver but getting the results I'm getting with my setup I don't think it's worth it.
 
Note the opening scene where the factory barrel was installed upside down with light grub screw torque... he couldn't budge the barrel. How much recoil energy is in a 22LR as compared to an adult male trying to wiggle the parts?

If we are discussing centerfire and larger chamberings, alot of this makes perfect sense... for a 22lr, my testing shows that an install that doesn't allow you to move the parts by hand is plenty good to extract what that barrel/ammo combo could do

Quality barrels, a suitable chamber, great match ammo, proper bedding... and today, a tuner, are the ingredients that seem to affect my results the most.

but... as always... YMMV
