Hey ladies and gentlemen,

I have before you the most important question ever to be asked.

Where do I get AR .308 parts?

After shuffling through a couple CZ858's, a CSA-58 and an M305, I have decided to build my "Go to" firearm of choice. I wanted to build something that could satisfy as many aspects as possible while providing light and comfortable ergonomics.

I would love to purchase a KAC SR25EMC, but we know that will never happen in this lifetime. Sacrifices have to be made, but I realize that I can build something almost identical for under half the cost. I will also learn alot in the process piecing it together myself.

Here is the current list:

Upper:
Mega MA-TEN Upper Receiver
DPMS Chromed Bolt Carrier Group
Troy TRX 12" Rail
Noveske 16" Stainless Barrel
Vltor Gas Block
AR15 Gas Tube
JP Muzzle Break

Lower:
Mega MA-TEN Lower Receiver
RRA Lower Parts Kit
Slash Buffer & Spring
Magpul MIAD Grip
Magpul ACS Stock
Milspec Buffer Tube
DPMS Bolt Catch
DPMS Magazine Catch Button

Questions:

#1 I keep hearing about people filling in their own paperwork to bring parts from the US across the border over $100. Can someone direct me where I can find this information?

#2 Am I able to use a rifle length gas system like the KAC SR25EMC? If so, will it work with a Noveske 16" Stainless barrel?

Anyone else out there building their very own AR .308?

Please share!!!

Also check about compatability when doing barrel and bolt carrier. I am in the process of doing this myself, although I have an Armalite lower and upper receiver. Armalite will not ship barrels to Canada, and I have been told there is a slight differance between a dpms barrel and an armalite bolt, and of course the mags are differant. An Armalite lower is not compatable with anyone else's upper that I am aware of. If I go with a dpms barrel, I have to use a dpms bolt and carrier. I don't know how the other manufaturers are, but don't assume parts interchangeability for the .308's like Ar15's.

Just a naive question. Why not buy a AR-10 (wolverine is the importer) and save your self a lot of work and end up with a firearm without any technical support? I know the experience is valuable but.. I have a Armalite AR-10A4 for over ten years, it shoots great and the only thing I modified was to install a Badger Ordnance free float hand guard that brought the accuracy down to 1" at 100 m using 150 gr FMJBT bullets in reloaded cases. I am just curious, that's all.

Wolverine can't sell them to civillians any more, hence doing a build. They have them but because of ITAR they are for LEO only. I have a complete AR 10 but want to add a carbine upper, and maybe someday make another lower, just because I can.

Yup. I did a bit of research and understand the differences in compatibility. I just wish there were more parts up here. I feel like I have to move to the U.S. just to build one.

Isn't there some paperwork I can do to import parts over $100? I know some have done it, but can't find the information.

Can anyone help with this?
