Parts common the the SMLE NoIII and the No4 rifles....

What about the sear, spring, mag release...

I think all of the screws are different as they changed their standardized thread from Enfield pattern to British standard?

Many thanks, Gentlemen - I bleeve that my contact, who is out of the usual shooting circuit that we all take for granted, is looking to see if a striker spring from an SMLE MkIII will fit in a No4.

I'll know more tomorrow, if you can bear with me on this one.

Best to all

No.4 mag fits in a no.1, at least in my Lithgow it does.

Some do and some don't -- it depends upon the individual magazine. Then, once you find one that will fit, it may need a small bit of tweaking to get it to feed properly and reliably. The barrel usually ends up with the extractor notch at about 180 degrees and a new extractor notch will have to be cut but the barrel threads are the same.

Acc. to SAIS #23, following parts interchangeable:
-Sear spring
-Striker mainspring
-striker plus cocking piece but as a unit.
-Stockbolt washer
-Stockbolt wad
-Butt swivel assbly.
-Sling swivel
-Butt plate assbly.
-Buttplate trap spring.
-Sling swivel screws
-Butt stock.

I looked this up recently as I bought a Lithgow No. 1 that someone had put a No. 4 striker and cocking piece in. It was poorly set up and got the rifle dirt cheap
as a result. One of those rare "wins" at a gun show.
