Paste Wax on Rifle Stock

What's a good paste wax to put on a finished rifled stock? I'm hoping this will ad water repellancy and keep moisture out.

If you are to be going this far you might think about where the recoil pad is and even the barrel channel now that I have gone this far the mag well might be a concern too.
I have bought and sold guns where I have checked to see if they have been sealed from moisture in these areas to prevent an unexpected surprise in my wooden stocked rifle or shotgun.
Living on an island on the Wet Coast has taught me a lesson or two.

I like to do linspeed finishes on some of my stocks and make it a point to get the oil into all of the exposed areas so expansion rates are the same. After that a paste wax is a paste wax for the most part and they will all work well on both the wood and metal. Real easy to strip off when you are back too. Bit of varsol on a rag.

I'm in the process of putting on coats of BLO. Inside and outside of the stock. Paste wax goes everywhere too I assume? Is it just one thick coat?

I use boiled linseed oil in non exposed areas. It is absorbed into the wood and stays forever. It moisturizes the wood and prevents it from drying and checking. As far as wax, look for something containing carnuba wax.

I have started using a product called "Ballistol".
It works on wood, leather, & metal. I wipe all my guns down including the wood stocks & it is easier than wax to apply....

Just don't try to buy this stuff in stores, nobody seems to carry it!
I bought mine through mail order....

What's carnuba wax and what makes it different from other waxes? How often do you need to reapply wax?

I've read somewhere else that the beeswax in those oil/turpentine/wax pastes that some folks use on guns, adds very little in terms or waterproofing.
Does anyone know if carnauba wax is better at keeping moisture out?

I use the Renaissance wax on metal and wood for all my rifles. To date, it has prevented rust, shrunk my groups in half and dramatically increased my sperm count! Okay- maybe not the last two...
