Patches wont stop coming out green on new mosin barrel....

I got a new mosin and was cleaning it. All in good shape till i started cleaning the barrel, i put 20-30 patchs through and Its still coming out green. Im using hops 9. This is after running 3 litters boiling watter through the barrel.

there is still copper in it, keep cleaning it should start to come out fairly clean with maybe just a little grey on it.

You havbe copper fouling. Boilin water will not handle it. Hopps will put a dent in it but that is all. I would suggest a couple of applications of wipe out and a good brush.

Wholesale Sports has various specific copper solvent options by brands like Hoppes, Butches, Otis, Outters, G96...

butches is pretty potent stuff thats what i've used but it still takes a ton of patches

I use a good copper fouling bore cleaner for my "new to me" milsurp rifles. You just don't know where its been or how well its been last cleaned. Slug the bore and measure once its cleaned.

Try giving it a good soaking of Hoppes and leave it overnite. Use a bore brush the next morning again soaked in Hoppes. Then try patching. If this doesn't work you will need a copper solvent. If you were nearby I would give you some. Good luck.

I wonder where did you find "new" mosin? They don't make them anymore.
On a serious note - common issue with milsurp. Good news - you don't have to clean it from all fouling. That's fine to have it. Some ppl believe total removal of old fouling will actually do more harm to the bore. If you still want to clean - one good copper solvent cleaning and then daily applications of Hopps 9 for the 1-2 months should resolve. Just apply wet patch with hopps and leave it, next day put dry patch through and again apply wet patch with hopps and leave it, repeat every day.

I've done daily treatments of Wipeout for a week (apply, wait a day, patch, reapply) after having at it with Sweets. Sometimes I'll give it the steel brush.

I go for Mostly Clean. Not sure if anyone has ever gotten ALL the dirt of Stalingrad out of a Russian gun, but it would take more persistence than I have.

Just go and shoot it, too much cleaning is hazardous for Mosin. The patch may get left in the barrel. Oil it and shoot it.
