Cool I figured that it couldn't be right. The rest of the NEA stuff I got in my order all seemed really good. But I was really disappointed in the barrel. I've sent SFRC a email with the pictures. Hopefully they'll get back to me.

Thanks Guys!

That's the normal finish on the NEA AR barrels. They come out from molted grey/black to a silver/dark grey. They are nitrated not parkerized.

Garbage if that is "normal"
Send it back for a refund and buy something else.
All the NEA threads with multiple issues and people still keep buying this crap....
No disrespect to Ryan at SFRC, they rock!

I personally wouldn't sweat it since the hand guard will cover most of it, it does look like siht, but it wouldn't be a deal breaker for me.

Yah Ryan said it should darken up with a good oiling so we'll see how it looks after that. As long as the last couple of inches out from the hand guard don't look completely horrible I'll probably keep it.

Yeah, it may not affect function, but that looks pretty rough. If the finish looks like poo, or has machining chatter marks, it may work great, but I don't mind spending a little more for one that doesn't. At least tell me first.

Wow, that looks like sh!t. Here's a nitride treated barrel... looks pretty even coloured to me.

I would be upset about that and would send it back. Although I wouldn't have been there in the first place as I have learned through life to just buy the quality item first. Sure you may not see it once the rail is on, but you will know about it. That's like saying don't worry about the rust under your car...you don't see it. Those patches may lead to rust spots or other problems down the road.

NEA stands for Not Easily Assembled. but anyway that's not what this is about now is it.

i'll trade you my norc barrel for that one? park is perfect on mine.

When Wolverine has all kinds of Daniel defense barrels in stock, why bother with NEA crap. It isn't as if it is a bad batch or one slipped thru. They have had major QC problems with virtually every product they put out.
