Patterning Turkey Guns

Post revisited a year later ... any update on a coyote rug for the trophy rom ? You must have shot a pant load of good fur by now !

Also, just wondering ... is all that choke really necessary for a trophy like that little one sitting on the arm chair ? ;)

A great read and I will add as this is my 17th year chasing these birds is if you buy a new box of shells make sure to run at least one at a target. I shoot an 870 Super mag. tac stock, 42 mil red Dot, Undertaker choke and 3.5" #6 Winchester Supremes(the black ones). After shooting these loads for 6-7 years I ran low and grabbed a couple boxes. Missed four birds over the course of 10 days at various ranges, for no apparent reason. Maybe the optics got bumped I thought. Ran an old shell down as I only had 2 left. Right on the money. Ran one from the new box 10 inches left and consistently left on the next 2 shots. While walking to the target I notice a strange wad laying on the ground. Cut open an old and new shell and the difference became clear, Winchester had changed wads. Never even crossed my mind that a small change such as this would have that much effect.

That and other little nuances make turkey hunting what it is
