Paul Harrell - AK Platform vs SKS

I wonder why both shooters have problems reloading the SKS. I just inserted the clip, push down, flick clip away, pull handle back and fire away. Never had issues at all.

I am guessing they either didnt have it fully seated and it tilited as they pushed down or they weren't pushing at the base of the rounds and using the clip as a guide for their thumb, Paul did say they didnt have a lot of practice and it's a technique issue.
I have also had some that had rust on the clips from poor storage that caused hangups as I loaded. Ideally they wpuld have been fairly close in reload times with someone used to the SKS.

Paul is great, although the only criticism I have is the failure to mention after market magazines for the sks. However I understand he just came with a very nice Yugo. Shame he didn't show that shasta who's boss.

Watching the video, it didn't necessarily seem like either personally owned the SKS, which might explain the lack of familiarity... :yingyang:

My guess is that he didn't disassemble the bolt for proper cleaning. The firing pin is too dirty if it doesn't rattle when one shakes the bolt by hand. I've seen that so many times..

I like the guy, but he seems to have more than the usual problem with slamfires.I have never seen a slamfire ,out of a properly maintained SKS.

I suspect most slam fires come from commercial grade ammo with soft primers being used in military firearms with free floating firing pins.

May just be me, but I've noticed that some American "guntubers" tend to have poor condition and/or poorly cleaned Russian firearms; I know that SVT-40's for example tend to get poor reps on those same American "guntuber" channels... :yingyang:

Me neither. You do not need to manually remove the clip. Insert and push cartridges down. Pull charger. Clip will be popped out automatically. Seriously, try it.
