PCMR Model 94 Carbine

I recently came across a Winchester Model 94 carbine a friend owns which was issued to the Pacific Coast Militia Rangers. It looks like a standard M94 carbine with a sling assembly added, I assume by a military armory. I found this web site with a little information:

Does anyone know about the history of these rifles? I thought it was an interesting gun and figured maybe someone could enlighten me with a little more info.

I have now owned two of them but both have left my hands for some reason. I regret selling the one for sure...

Well, I cant add much that the site you posted doesn't already say. I guess if you find a good one for a decent price, snap it up. IMO a great piece of Canadian history worth owning, especially if you are in to Winchesters.

See them quite often at shows hear on the west coast. Apparently they were offered to the member for $5 after the war with a little certificate stating their name etc. I've only seen one such certificate in person. Should have visible C-broad arrow's (Canadian military acceptance mark), on butt near toe, receiver and forend all on left side.
Hope this helps. I admit to having owned one which I since sold. They are worth maybe $200-300 more than equivalent era '94 in same condition IMHO.

The only thing I can ad is if it's a PCMR issue Win 94 then it's likely in the 1,3###,### serial number range.

Have had a nice one in the past & like many before me who did & sold them the regret is strong.

I do currently have a fairly nice 1.3 million serial number range Win 94 .30-30 carbine but it is not PCMR marked, though.

'Course the '94's from that era make very nice shooters, too.

The PCMR M94's are pre-war models. . The one thing I've noticed, with the two I own, is the light hammer spring. . My first one I bought years ago and used it for hunting deer here on the west coast. . Never paid much attention to it being a PCMR rifle until years later. . Picked up a second one in exceptional condition, almost mint, complete with the original sling and front mtg. assy. . What I've learned is the slings were regular WW11 issue used with the 303 Enfield Rifle. . The front sling attachment band was made at the Victoria Armory from empty ammo cans.. I believe the rear sling swivel is also the same used on the Enfields. . Most I've run across are in well used condition. . The s/n range was in the 1,300,000 range and they were stamped with the Canadian Broad Arrow on the left front lower receiver and the left side front of the forearm and the left rear of the buttstock. .
