Hey guys, been doing some research on PCP guns and how to fill them.In my area there are limited options for filling tanks. It seems that buying a compressor is the only reasonable way to go. There are a few drawbacks to that, mainly price for something decent. I found that I can get high pressure nitrogen relatively cheap.Has anyone used it? Seems to me a better choice than air.Any info would be appreciated.

hmmm , I was told today that I could get 4500 psi nitrogen. 2000 would not be near enough. Will have to do more research.

Talk to your local gas bottle supplier and you end up with the actual information, rather than internet info.

If you can, get a regulator for the bottle, so you can fill say, a 3000 psi tank on an airgun, to 3000 psi, without overfilling it, at least, until the bottle pressure is below 3k. See if the Bottle outfit will refill a bottle and only charge for the gas you used, or if they charge a flat rate as if the bottle was empty.

There are some pretty gyppo rigs out there for filling an airgun. Anything that works well and isn't going to destroy itself in use, it seems to me, is going to cost you a bunch.

In many cases you get more fills from a smaller higher pressure vessel than a larger 3000 psi tank like a typical scuba tank. There are calculators on the net for figuring this out. I figured out that a much smaller paintball tank filled to 4500psi will give as many fills as a scuba tank if my lower limit is 2500 psi. I can still use the scuba tank when its filled to 2500 psi, but its better to shoot it tethered to the gun so that you get steady velocity. Good for shooting off the bench.

Good info! I am leaning towards the nitrogen tank.Startup cost is way less and no compressor issues to deal with, no moisture filters to set up and maintain etc. Thanks for the link to AGN, good site.
