I've got really small hands, being only 5'6", and am looking for my next 9mm.

I've got a CZ 75B which I love though it's a bit large for me to reach the controls.

I don't have the opportunity to hold or test fire any of these three guns prior to buying so I will be relying on my gut feeling and reviews on the internet. So many reviews are focused on ccw and hd that having opinions from Canadians is much more helpful than most online reviews.

What's your personal opinion on how these guns stack up against each other? Do you have a preference?

glock 48 fits small hands being a single stack.

The G48 fits my hand like a glove. I love it.
But... I mean, it's not a beauty is it? I could have it and like the fit but I probably wouldn't love it. How's the recoil? Is it snappy for being so small and light? I've heard people have good accuracy with it.

I'd prefer to have something beautiful and nice like one of the ones I listed at the top. But I am afraid they'll be a bit large for me. Do you have a G48 and any of those ones? Can you compare the size for me?

I picked up a G48, was sure that I wasn't going to like it (too thin, I have Big mitts) however with a Hogue HandAll installed, it filled the grip in nicely, and now it's probably one of my favorite guns to shoot. Controllable and not "flippy". I'm guessing for the PDP you could go with the compact grip and 5" slide? the grip on the compact I'm told is more akin to the G19, while the full size is like the G17?
I have a full size 4.5" PDP on the way, so I'll be able to "fill in the blanks" later. Personally I think the PDP is a good pick, the reviews have been excellent.

This guy seems to be well respected and fair.

For me from smallest to not so small

G48
HK P30L
Walther PPQ/PDP
CZ Shadow 2
Sig P226 Legion

All of the above are comfortable and fit well.

Don’t discount a good 1911 in 9mm with slim grips. My Dan Wesson’s with slim grips are fantastic ( but are .45 ACP )

Excellent list. I agree with you. I found them to be the same list (well, I haven't actually held an hk yet), but mostly found the p226 to be uncomfortably thick in the grip.

There isn’t much out there that can compare to the G48 when it comes to grip circumference. It measures somewhere around 5” in circumference, which is something like 1/2” smaller than even the smallest double stacks.

It doesn’t seem like much, but it makes a huge difference to the less than large handed!

Trigger reach is on par with most DA/SA pistols in SA mode.

I haven’t had the pleasure of handling (or measuring) a PDP or a PPQ, but I have a suspicion that the trigger reach is longer than your average striker fired pistol, which means it might be a tad out of reach for a short fingered person without having to rotate the pistol in your hand a bit.

You can see on handgun hero (a damn useful website for comparisons BTW) that the trigger reach is a tad longer than a P10C for example. Every once and a while if I’m a tad bit off on my draw I find that I don’t quite disengage the safety on a P10C and it’s one of the most small hand friendly double stacks out there, so that extra 0.2” could make a difference.

I ended up hoosing the P10C over the G48 because I prioritized the superior trigger of the P10C over the smaller G48 grip. But if I was shooting in a sport that didn’t care about trigger mods then the G48 would have been my choice. Weird since I HATE full sized Glocks.

That's really interesting, thanks for the info. It sounds like if I really want to maximize fit the G48 is the way to go. Mods and accessories of course just to make things spicey.
I'm starting to think I should re-examine the G48. But, it's just so plain! The P30L has ### appeal!

Am I being immature?

Not at all. I certainly wouldn’t spend money on a firearm that didn’t “ call to me”

Lol, I also thought Glocks were plain and ugly until I actually shot a G19 and realized that hand fit was far more important than looks in a pistol. I shoot that ugly G19 far better than I shoot any other gun because it feels like it was made for my hand. Don’t rule out the G48 just because it’s plain, shoot a few side by side and find what works for you:)
Is there a rental range close to you, or do you ever come to the coast where DVC is located? Trying them before purchase would be ideal, best of luck in your search

Not at all. The cool factor counts for a lot. I shoot cap and ball revolvers at cowboy action matches, they’re finicky, dirty, and inconvenient, but I’ll put up with all of that for reasons that have nothing to do with performance LOL

I also have small hands and I took a look at the PDP a couple days ago. It felt good especially when you put on the smaller grip on. There will be a Compact 4.6" model with a threaded barrel. I found a few sites have it up but nobody seems to know when it'll be out. I'll be waiting for that. Just hope it doesn't take too long to come out.

I have small wide hands. Glock 17s, Brownings, CZ SP01 were all a stretch for me. I fell in love when I picked up a Walther PPQ M1 Navy and have never looked back! I find the paddle mag release much easier to use with my stubby thumbs.
