Looking for info from experienced Swiss Arms owners. With the OAL restriction of the magazine, is there any point to the 1:7 twist barrel on many of these rifles?
I'd like to use as heavy a bullet as possible but as near as I can tell a 77gr is going to be the heaviest (longest) bullet the magazine will allow.

The magazine allows for significantly longer COAL than an AR mag. Your reloading manual should give COAL guidelines, and as long as they are less than 2.290", it'll be fine. Remember though, velocity drops significantly with heavy bullets, so I wouldn't go much heavier than 77gr anyways.

I wanted the 1/10' twist as I only shoot 55gr and 62gr but I could not pass up the deal

If you only shoot 62gr and higher get the 1/7", But if you mainly shoot 62gr and lower get the 1/10"

I don't shoot precision like alot of people do with these rifle's but I have tried and tried to get different results and can't, 55gr ammo performs very similar if not identical at 100M through both my 1in7 and my 1in10. At least with my hands, and iron sights both the 1in7 and 1in10, group 5 shots in about 1.8-1.9 inch groups at 100m, If that helps anyone....

I also shoot nothing but 55gr and wanted a second 1in10 twist, but a 1in7 was available for the right price I just couldn't pass it up.

Thats correct you should not see a huge differance until you hit about the 300m mark

most 45gr is a nogo in a 1/7'

Even at 300m and 400m, with 55gr ammo, my 1in7 shoots the same as my 1in10 did on a consistent basis. Again I know it's not precision rifle work but for what I do, I don't see a difference even at those ranges when using 55gr.

I even did some Iron sighted 500M shooting with the 1in7 twist recently again with 55gr and was scoring about 80% hits on a figure 11, I never tried reaching out that far with the 1in10

I agree though, if you plan on shooting anything lighter than 55gr, then a 1in7 would be a no go, if all your shooting is bulk 55gr, twist makes little to no difference in my opinion.

.

I also use nothing but 55's and take my 1:10 out to 600 where it shoots very nice. When you get her back try it for sure you will not be disappointed.

yes, the Swiss make it with a 1in10" twist, optimized for swiss 62gr ammo

they also make a 1in7" twist for export

As far as Non restricted's go We have mostly 1in10's over here but I am starting to see more 1in7 full length rifles

Both work fine for 55gr and 62gr then? I would mostly be using 55gr but the option for 62gr is nice

bullet manufacturers recommend a 1:7 twist at 75gr and above. At these bullet weights, I can't see them fitting with magazine OAL specs, so why the 1:7? Is it the lack of barrel length that requires the fast spin?
