PE-90 - removing the sights ?

I want to mount optics onto a PE-90. I have seen that some people are removing the front and rear sights from their guns. Is this hard to do ? Is it advisable ? Are the sights easy to re-install ?

I just want to remove the sights to make mounting optics a bit easier...
 
Get roosters extended rail, if you can afford the $150 it's a hassle free option and lets you keep the irons on.;)
 
If you use Warne Ultra-High rings, one does not have to remove the rear sights. They allow for proper eye-relief with a more reward positioning. I have a Nightforce 2.5-10X mounted in this manner, and the ocular bell has .015"+ clearance with the 100m notch.
Although, you'll require the cheekpiece for the stock (I prefer this for the EOTech as well).
 
I go the other way, just work around it, the view through the scope is just fine through the 100m notch for me. This is just a small scope, but I mount a Mk4M1 the same way. :)

You actually look through the scope THROUGH the diopter ? What is your setup ?

I am trying to get a Rooster rail but can't get ahold of the man...

The other reason for removing sights would be if I can mount the scope low enough that I would not need a checkrest

I assume the only thing to keep in mind with this rail is to get a scope with decent eye relief (like a leupold) ?
 
Yep, I look through the 100m battle sight notch, but 65% of the recticle is above the notch, including the crosshair. You don't loose much field, just two corners of the battle notch that protrude into the bottom corners of the field of view, but you forget they are there fast and make no difference in performance. And, as you mention, this gives the perfect cheek weld without any cheekrest.

What rings and base are you running ? Would it help to go with a SLIGHTLY higher ring to align a bit higher relative to the sight notch without having a negative impact on your cheek weld ?
 
Base is the standard PE90 base to the best of my knowledge, and rings in the pic are just some low weavers I threw on. I run low Leupold Mk4 rings or low weaver 30mm's depending with the Mk4M1. You could easily go up a hair if you wanted to, but it works great with lows. :) Hell if you're in Okotoks anytime soon you can try it :D

Damn, just came back from Calgary *LOL* I am still trying to get my hands on a rail for the Classic Green and am still undecided on rings . Now that it is on the way, so much needs to be done for it (like getting some 20/5rd mags) :D

Does the front sight interfere with your sight picture in any way ?
 
Great pic, I will try that setup to start with. Would that setup allow for mounting a scope with a 40mm bell ?

Now I just need a Rooster Extended Rail (if anyone has one to sell, give me a holler).
 
This is my mounting set up:


ARMS #35 QD mount with #35 medium rings.The combo just clears the rear sight drum by about 1/16" to 1/8".

Personally, I would leave the iron sights on the rifle just incase your optics go down.

I bought an AirsoftSig cheekrest for $40.00 and it works great.Clamps on and off in seconds.;)

Order the Rooster rail, (and wait patiently for it ;) )
This is a Leupold 6X(40mm) with Leupold QRW med. rings - works well enough that I sold my cheekpiece!.
This rifle now sports a Bushnell 3200 10X although I don't have a pic available.
As Ardent pointed out - the cheekweld is excellent, and the irons don't interfere at all.
