Hey,

I can't seem to get the Black Special out of my mind. I've read all I could find on here and on the net. I found the SIG 550 military proving tech sheet and was wondering if the PE90 is manufactured to the same level as the 550. For example, the barrel life of 40K rds.
So essentially, what I want to know is:
Is the PE 90 simply a semi-auto version of the 550, with the same level of quality as the 550? Or is it manufactured to a higher standard? I dunno?
Also, the 550 is made by SIG, and the PE90 is made by Swiss Arms, can somebody please clue me in to what relation SA has to SIG.

Thanks, Steve

Steve,

SIG sold off it's weapon manufacturing and the new Company is called Swiss Arms. Short answer, it's just a name change there are no guns being made by SIG anymore.

The PE 90, Canadian Classic Green, Black Special ect. are made to exactly the same quality standards as the current SG 550, 551 and 552's. The only difference is that they don't contain the full-auto and burst parts. There is a belief that the Semi Auto guns are better and more attention is paid to them in the factory as they will be used by target shooters.

Barrels are cold hammer forged and outstanding in their accuracy and longevity. I have been told that the Swiss Army changes them out at about 30K because they think they need to, not because they have to.

My Classic Green has between 8 and 9K through it and I have had one malfunction. It still shoots any ammo I feed it MOA, some times better if the wind is calm and I do my part.

I'm also issued a SG552 that has between 3 and 4K and it has never malfunctioned and we use strange frangible ammo for practice. It ragged holes at 25 meters.

(This will get some guys' backs up but we had a HK416 and tested it side by side with the 552. Everyone who shot them perfered the SG552. I pay close attention to the "non-gun guys" as they don't care who makes the weapon or what it's called. These guys perfered the SG552 saying that the triggers were better, recoil was smoother, more controlable and easier to make hits with.) (Before I get beat up I need to add that I am a huge HK fan and adore the 416.)

If you buy one Steve you will never look back.

Thanks for the info Rich. BTW, are you in Switzerland..? "I'm also issued a SG552 "...

I'll check in with P&D and see what the deal is with the one they have.

I'm totally enamored with the Black Special, but I'll have to sell off some other guns to be able to afford it.

Thanks, Steve :)

I enjoy my Swiss Arm's rifle's very much, I think they are very well built.
If you get a chance to pick one up... You will find them to be worth every penny.

Here is a little eye candy...

The one at P&D is the target model with no iron sights. I want sights. That said, I found a couple, thanks to some folks here nudging me in the right direction.
I'll let you know what happens.

I just bought a Black Target special. It has the folding sights. They all have the folding sights.
If you plan to mount a scope this is the model to get. Easier and cheaper to get that scope on.

Thats a great rifle. Ive had the opportunity to shoot the Swiss Arms rifles and love them. Ironically I opted for a HK SL8 with all the G36 optics and stock bits .. as it was "cheaper" at the time and had the ability to use AR15 mags. While I love the G36 'forgey I have to admit that the Swiss Arms are somewhat a cleaner overall out of the box rifle.

If there was a way to use AR15 mags (especially the RRA 10 rounders) than I'll have an HK on the EE pretty darn quick ;)
