Pedersoli copy of 71 Winchester

Anyone own/shoot one of these. How is quality and performance?

just picked up one, here on the EE, but haven't shot it yet.
One really nice feature is that the bolts are milled for the bolt peep, which is also available.
Wood is very nice, fit and finish is very good also.
The only fault that I can see, without having shot it yet, is that the comb on the butt stock is as thick as a baseball bat.

True, I have both Browning 71's and a number of original 86's, but the Pedersoli stock is really in a class of its own when it comes to stock thickness. I wasn't exaggerating much when I compared it to a baseball bat.

that is disappointing, they are not a cheap rifle. Mirokou got theirs right with the Browning clones. Have any of the Shot show special 71's by Winchester / Mirokou appeared yet?

dan belisle has the right answer to that. Some good sharp woodworking tools and a bit of patience will fix that right up. I just got mine two weeks ago, and haven't gotten around to it yet, but that is exactly what I am going to do. They are a nicely made gun, and with a bit of stock work, will be just fine.
A few things in it's favour, as opposed to the current Winchester versions, are that they do not have the damn tang safety, nor the effing rebounding hammer. They are also, like I said above, ready to accept the available bolt peep.
These 86/71's are in 45-70, unlike the original 71's. There is also a version in 444 Marlin, but that one, for some reason has a tang safety, and is not set up for the bolt peep (I think). Check the Pedersoli website out for more details

I've been reading about some feeding problems with the rifle. This is worth a read for anyone considering one:

That was a year ago, maybe they got those issue figured out. Hope so, it is a nice looking gun. The actions should be smooth as silk to be like a 71.

You must mean the Pedersoli 86/71 which is a Winny 71 repro in 45-70 GVT rather than the 348 Winchester.
I have the fancy grade model.
The furniture is fantastic but I'm having cycling problems because the cartridge lifter sometimes fails to lift the cartridge in line with the chamber.
I understand from Googling that this is a common problem with these guns.
I don't want one of the times my 86/71 fails to properly chamber a cartridge to be when a bull moose is standing in front of me so it will be in the penalty box until the feeding issues are fully resolved.
Considering the high MSRP of these guns there shouldn't be any problems.
I'm using the HSM 430 grain hard cast lead ammo from Cabelas.
When I get enough fired cases I'll develop a load the gun can digest reliably.
The 71 action like the 86 and 92 actions are notoriously ammo sensitive.
One load will be a disaster and another load with a different bullet shape or COAL might function perfectly.
Sometimes with the '86 family of actions you gotta experiment till you find the "sweetheart load".
