Just placed an order for one with Dixie Gunworks!

Anybody else own one or have experience with one ?

I hope to humanely plop a deer this season with a sabot fired from it. Well see what happens...

The sabots give me better peace of mind....

I want things to be comfortably traditional for this season haha

Check out the Muzzleloading Forum (Google traditional muzzleloading forum). Lots of info there but sabots are not discussed there. You will get an education on the effectiveness of patched round balls.
If you are absolutely dead set against PRB, go with a cast conical or mime style.

Saboted boolits are for in-line BP rifles. Use maxi-balls. Maxi's aren't balls as the name suggests. They are heavy, conical, banded projectiles with plenty of lube groove.

Ive heard many stories of success utilizing round balls, but ive also heard stories of failure. I already have some Sabots at home collecting dust, so i want to give them a try first. If the performance is sub par, then ill order some conicals online.

You'll hear stories of success and failure with most anything. Expect in a lot of cases there is some degree of operator error to blame. Bad choice of ammo or poor shooting come to mind.

Traditional muzzleloader and sabot is sacrilege.

The rifle is a 1:48 twist, one of the biggest reasons why I ordered it. Should be prefect for hunting deer with bullets, and plinking with round balls.

I have a Traditions Kentucky with a 1:66 twist, and of course it doesnt stabilize much other then round balls. I did try hunting with it last season. Had it loaded with Hornady PA 's... never connected with a deer.

Decided to upgrade to something higher quality and more shootable. But yet I also wanted to remain .50 cal for many reasons.

Nice buy!
I have a couple Pedersoli’s and really like them for their quality & craftsmanship.
I too like the Hawken rifles. Good job getting a very nice Italian one. Might you ever be looking for another Pedersoli Check this guy from Alberta;

Cap and Ball is a great YouTube channel as well. He did a review on the Pedersoli Rocky Missouri River Hawken in with the faster 1:24 twist.
I much rather like the Rocky Mountain Hawken in 54 with slower twist.
As for projectile use whatever suits your fancy. I’ll be hunting this fall with my new to me TC Renegade in .50 using 350gr Hornady FPB on top of 85grs Pyrodex RS. 4” @100 yards with TC peep.
Good luck n your deer hunt with your flintlock!
