Does anyone have an opinion, or tales of wonderment or horror, about the best pedestal rest and bags to buy? It's about time to upgrade and I'm particularly interested in short distance br as well as F class shooting. My old bag and rest will do in a pinch but the bags are pretty tatty now and the rest only adjusts one way as well as not providing a decent hold for the front bag. It also looks like I might have to shoot faster than I am used to shooting and the system I have now is dead slow and error prone. So, I do alot of adjusting between shots. I have found some information about filling bags and what one wants to achieve etc., but haven't found enough info to make an informed choice about what makes to buy. cheers...fred

You can just simply order rest and top from sinclair and most a pretty good.
You can spend a little or a lot. I found just a standard one is hard enough to
pack around. I love the viper, but just don't want to pay the much myself.

depending on how much you've got to spend and where you want to go the Farely rests are awesome... you'd get a lot feedback from the short range BR types on this and it can be modified to use for f-class. I've been doing just that for 3-4 years. It's pretty stable...

Then there's the smaller joystick tops. Farley makes one but I stay away from it like the plague... seems it was more of an afterthought. Butch Lambert makes a small stick top too and his is sweet and less problematic in the tension in the joystick area.

Both tops can be retro-fitted to something like a Sinclair bottom or that's what I'd recommend. You might want to consider the lighter top because the complete standard Farley unit is very very heavy. Moving from yardage to yardage with one well it's best to have a cart. One thing for sure it's not going anywhere when you position it.

Once you use a joystick to centre up the crosshairs you'll have a heck of time going back to anything previously.

for the frugal type I guess the Hoppes works just fine for them... or some plastic MTM device?

Hey Fred, Have you considered one of the Remple bi pods that Paul Riebin sells?

Hi Ian,
Yes, I looked at them and think they are very fine, certainly better than any bipod I have seen or bought. A guy might not give much, if anything, away to rests while using one. Where I'm stuck is with the thought I might give benchrest a try sometime, which seems to require a rest and bags that will do double duty. On the other hand, the thing that bothers me about going to an F class match is the fact I have never felt properly set up when I am shooting and I always return to battery through a very circuitous route :). For that matter, any success I have experienced usually comes from getting a shot off fast, rather than working from a stable base. I know! I know! Bad way to do things. Will think about it some more...doesn't help that these issues are ones that Mystic Player casually mentions from time to time. The other thing, of course, is pressure on my neck from not being set up right. One of those rests may well help with those things.
Very much appreciate the input...thanks Ian...fred
