peep for '94'

I have one on a winchester and a marlin. There are several good ones out there for a winchester. Tried finding a used one on E-Bay but they were selling for new price. Bought a Williams model from SIR for around $65. Installation takes special taps and drills which a gunsmith should have. There are the XS-Sight system too but they also need some tapping and drilling. I like mine but they aren't for everyone...ST...

The Williams model that fiits the 94 Win. is, surprise, a model 94 Williams. The same sight fits the Marlin 1894 Model 44 mag. The older Williams were called the "Fool Proof," and were far superior to the new ones.
For many years the 94 has been drilled for an aperature sight. Lyman also makes one, not quite so compact looking as the Williams, but may better quality than the new Williams.

I have a Williams #375 reciever sight on my Winchester Model 94 BB in 375 Win, it was already tapped for it so it was easy to put on and it works great. It has click adjustments and locking screws to hold your adjustments once it is sighted in. I also installed a Williams Firesight front sight with the matching hood, good combo I think.

There are a number of good sights out there, the Williams FP as already mentioned, lyman, and redfield sights can also be found, if you dig for them.
The FP is aluminum. That may bother some.
I have one on my '94, it's been there since about 1972, and it's never given me an issue.
Many '94s are already drilled for these sights.

John, it is not that Williams are aluminum that bother me, as I have a FP from about 1972 also, and I think it is a geat sight. The new Williams are not called Fool Proof and are of different design. I just bought one for a 94 and it is far inferior to the old ones.

I've seen those, and I agree, but I understood the FP was still available.

What makes the new sights far inferior? The one on my BB94 takes adjustments well and locks up solid once the locking screws are tightened. I have fired a pile of 250 gr GC bullets through that rifle (more than most hunters would in a lifetime) and the sights have stayed bang on, can't see how they could be better.

Get Skinner Peep sights. They are great and he will custom make any size peep hole you want. They are also really inexpensive as well. They are great on my Marlin.

The FoolProof is still made and marketed as the FP. The other one Williams makes for the 94 is the 5D sight. The difference is the FP has a mechanical means of adjustment (micrometer screws) whereas the 5D you simply unlock the screw, move the slider, and relock the sight. The FP currently runs about eighty bucks or so, the 5D is a lot cheaper.

I have the Williams peep on a number of rifles. Works like a charm. On some scoped rifles I have the base on the rifle and the sight bridge (which was sighted in) in my fanny pack or truck. If scope gets whacked or broke, it comes off with a Loonie (Weaver bases) and the Williams peep goes on.

Twice in 40 years of hunting I have had to do this. One scope fgged and the other got hit pretty bad and I was in no palce to fire a confimration shot. I love having a "Plan B" for some forseebale problems.

On some short range rifles designated my "bad weather rifles" a peep and bright red front sight aren the standard equipment. For example, this Win 94AE in 356 Win.

I have a small peep used for sighting in and use the larger diameter peep for hunting.

Williams Foolproof, I put one on my win 94 classic 20" barrel. Works great but the two front fibre optic tubes that came with it were too short. I had to get the model number .406 and it works great now!!! Nice peep for under $80

I have a Lyman peep (like the above pic) but I took it off and put the original rear sight back on. I don't like peeps. So now my problem is that the gun shoots a foot high @100yrds. I assume the guy I bought it from changed the front to match the rear peep. Anyone want to trade an original pre-64 (approx 1956) lower front sight for my peep? Good deal since the front sights are way cheaper than these peepsights.
