Hi guys, looking for some insight on peep sights. In your opinion, what is the best rear peep sight to put on my Marlin 336c for hunting? I looking to hunt with open sights, so no scopes. Thanks!

Before my eyes gave up playing I use to use WILLIAMS peep sights on several rifles. All are LIGHT, CHEAP, RUGGED & work well and you can change the APERTURE to whatever you want for size. I had the BRASS circle which worked well but if I did it again I'd opt for the IRIS type that opens/closes so you can alter the diameter of the hole just by turning the rim of the sight. This makes a BIG difference on how sharp the front sight/target is. Wonderful tool. The WILLIAMS also allows for FINE repeatable adjustment for DISTANCE & WINDAGE. I've used Skinner and they are also great but JUST MY OPINION is the adjustment wasn't as precise/repeatable. You won't go wrong either way, both are nice but for my $$$ I prefer the WILLIAMS.

I like the XS sights, but my preference is Skinner. The Skinners are more of a “sight it and set it” system, Lyman and Williams offer better adjustments.

I like Skinner. Either the low profile or std peep. I also have the winged version for the added protection but they are not needed. For a light 30-30 i would go low profile myself

I'm just worried about accidentally hitting the aperture on something, which is why I was going for the winged version, to protect it.

Ultra strong peep, wings aren’t required in my experience.

To each their own though :)

That is what I thought originally as well and why I bought the winged sight, but I really didn't like it. I doubt very much you would damage any of the non winged options.

This is what i love about this site, learning from other people's experiences! I'll reconsider the winged sight. My second choice was the express
