I was going to build myself a pellet trap out of plywood and then line it with steel to use for air rifle and possibly rimfire. Then I found a metal one on Amazon and decided to buy it.

It went together well.

The actual usable opening that has the thick steel backer is only about 6".

When I go to print some new targets I will change the lay out to work more with the dimensions available with this trap.

I tried it with some JSB Hades at about 15 feet distance shooting between 450fps and about 880fps. These are the largest pieces that I found in front of the trap. There were also smaller fragments. I will buy a few pounds of duct seal and put it on the inside to keep the shrapnel down.

I got a Do All, pellet trap and spinner combo.. And I dented it with BBs and pellets, not really impressed with it. I got a much larger and thicker Champion 22LR bullet trap. And that much better. I was lucky and got it on clearance for 50$.
 
That definitely was a good deal for $50.00. I think this one is basically the same as the Champion except it's bolted together instead of welded together.
 
I got one of those bullet boxes for Christmas, Im not worried about damaging it but it does send a bit of shrapnel back at you. I would recommend safety glasses at 10yds or less. I dont know how you would stick duct seal to the inside with it being sloped but I might try hanging a piece of carpet behind the target. I built a wooden box and use duct seal and it works good its just gotten kind of shot up over the years.

Ive used them all. Rubber mulch, Duct Seal, plywood, stuffed rags in a box, Crosman curtain pellet trap. Metal ones are just easier to collect pellets. Don't have to worry about punching thru, shredded carpet fibers, cleaning is as easy as dumping. I mainly use it now to hang targets. I don't really need to use it.
 
I use a metal trap with a slab of duct seal positioned where the pellets and bb's will hit. Keeps the noise down and prevents ricochets.....replace as required.
 
I've had that box for years, they are very durable, heavy and strong, I like the mounting duct seal idea as it can kick out dust after a while. Just to add, you can buy bags of Rubber Mulch at Home Depot, just fill a cardboard box tighly with it, 7" deep will stop 223 iirc, I just use mine for pellets. Cleaned it out just the other day, just pick out the pellets and reuse media in new box.

KDX, I have the same trap and it works fine for airsoft, .177 airgun and .22 LR.

I use small super magnets to hold down the bottoms of my paper targets to the bottom sill of the trap. It keeps the paper from blowing in the wind.

It is noisy indoors though.
 
I read somewhere that you should keep your speeds under 600 FPS in the house or you'll get lead dust and possible health issues.

Magnets, good tip. Thanks. I bought some duct seal and put it in the trap. Seems to have made a bit of difference sound wise and should address the shrapnel issue.

This was 20 or 30 pellets (don't remember which).
