A friend recently gave me several boxes of Crossman .22 calibre lead pellets. I graduated from pellet guns a while ago, but I've been slowly accumulating the gear to start casting slugs for my 12ga.

The lead these are made of is fairly dark, almost a navyblue-gray, and are pretty soft. Would these be practical to melt down for lead stock, and ultimately cast?

I'd bet they are pure lead or close to it. Might be too soft depending on what you want to use it in. That can be fixed pretty easily though.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Use them in your pellet gun!!!! you can shoot in the basement!!!!

Lol seems liek a waste to me....you can use old wheel weights to cast bullets. Imagine if somebody gave you a perfectly good skinning knife, but you don't hunt, so you made it into a steak knife....

One of my friends shoots a lot of airguns in his basement. when he cleans this trap, I get a coffee can full of spent pellets. Spoon them into the pot, melt, and flux as normal and they make great slugs. I bought a brick of those cheap industry brand pellets from Tool Town a while back for indoor plinking and the best place for those pellets was the melting pot! The slugs I cast from them were a lot better than the original pellets LOL.

My Lee 1oz mould says to use pure lead for casting slugs. I save my wheel weights for making bullets
