HARRISBURG, Pa. - A Pennsylvania hunter has been found guilty of using pastries to illegally bait the largest bear killed in the state during the 2009 season.

The Pennsylvania Game Commission says the 39-year-old Wilkes-Barre resident was found guilty Thursday and was ordered to pay $6,800 in fines and restitution, plus court costs.

Game Commission officials say the hunter admitted using bait to help him attract and kill the 707-pound (321-kilogram) bear. They say he first raised suspicions when he was spotted a week before the hunting season driving a truck loaded with pastries through a heavily hunted area.

The man also faces the loss of hunting privileges for three years.

OPP shot one that big last fall, we weighed it on our landfill site scales, he was 710 lbs, all in. He'd been standing up and peering through patio doors here in town as well as he'd been seen tearing the doors off no less than 3 large garden shed doors to get at the garbage in town.
Couple of people near had a heart attack when they saw his nose pressed into the glass!

The hunter was probably reported to the mnr, by other jealous hunters.
If the guy was a heavy weight, he should have claimed self defence for his lunch...and probably would have got away with it:D
