Hey there, i have been researching for a while on a shotgun that i want for the perfect split between trap and upland game. Ive been strongly leaning towards a browning cynergy, but don't know what model would be best for that perfect split. id prefer to put a cap of $2K (if that is even possible..). i heard i needed to be properly "fitted" as well?? Im 5'11" and dont know what LOP i would need either. if anyone has any suggestions through experience or just knowledge i would love to here your imput.

thanks

There really is no perfect split. No one gun will be perfect for either and will be a compromise. Trap guns are longer, heavier and most often shoot high because targets are rising. The same can be said for sporting clays and skeet guns except they generally shoot a flatter pattern.

Upland guns meanwhile are lighter, shorter and easier to carry. So your perfect gun will be too heavy for the field or too light for sustained target shooting.

That doesn't mean that it can't be done. I used one gun for everything for many years. It was a Beretta 682 target gun. It was heavy for the field but I was younger then.

Go to gunshops, pick up and look at various guns and see which one feels right for you. I'd suggest looking at Berettas, Brownings, Fabarms and Guerinis.

perfect gun

Yeah no golden gun out there or everyone would own one. I shoot a Citori XS special. It covers most of the bases. Mostly used for sporting clay, I have shot trap with it and works well. I have shot few birds over the dog with it too. Nice all around gun

Just as an idea maybe it's best not to worry about what you use for shooting trap right now. Why not concentrate on finding a nice gun for upland birds sporting clays, 5 stand and skeet. It will still break birds in trap and later on you could look for a 2nd hand BT99 or 100 if you want to be a little more serious about it. You should be able to find a decent one for $700 or $800 and you'll have two guns instead of just one:D. I'm not sure how important the weight issue is, but for myself I would buy a match grade gun and it would probably be one of the B guns (Browning or Beretta). At least that is what I am saving for right now. Just my $0.02 worth.

you maybe able to get a used guerini for very close to your price----i know of one---pm me for details----

ideally it is best to go shoot different guns if you can----they pretty much all have different recoil characteristics---recoil should be looked at during your decision making process...

Todd

How much trap are you planning on shooting?
2 grand is a pretty skinny budget for an over and under, unless you are considering some thing from the used market place. FS
