So after a bit of trial and error, I finally worked up a 7mm Rem Mag load that my rifle REALLY likes. Only issue is that the pill in this load is one I have zero on game experience with, Speer’s 160gr Grand Slam. To make matters worse I’ve found precious little information on the current iteration of the Grand Slam, the majority of information available online referring to a previous version.

And so I ask, does anyone on here use the current version of the Grand Slam as their go to bullet? And if so, how did it perform on game? The more information the better, so don’t be shy.

They are one of the most underated bullets out there. I have used them in 300 win mag, 243 and 30-06. Never lost an animal. Only recovered a couple, otherwise they penetrate right on through.

I don't know yet. I've had some 200gr. Grand Slams for .303British for several years, at long last loaded a batch for 2018. They shot well on the range (from a Parker Hale Supreme No.4) but I didn't get a chance to put one in an animal. I'll be using them again this year.

The old version was very good, an excellent choice for most anything. I used them to take few critters and was also present for many more animals taken by companions using them. But I understand they have been changed to a cheaper less sophisticated version of their former design. I expect they still work, for most situations most of the time, but may not be a "premium" choice any more.

I've taken 3 moose with the .30 cal 180 gr Grand Slam from a .300 win mag.

One was recovered, pictured below. It was a heart shot at about 200 yds; took out a rib going in.
It weighs 157 gr, which is about 87 %

That was about 15 years ago though, so probably isn't relevant if construction has changed. Not sure when the change was made.

I’ve shot the biggest moose of my life with a 150 grain GS from a 270 win.

The bull was standing quartering toward at 140 yards. Bullet went from the point of the shoulder to the back of the shoulder on the offside. No heavy bone hit. The bullet was recovered in the hide. He went down in about 50 yards.

Speer used to make a cartridge called NITREX (in yellow boxes) and they loaded Grand slam bullets in Nickle plated cases.
I used to buy the 270 ones with a 130 gr GS bullet going about 3100fps.

deer never knew what hit them.
never recovered a bullet, all went right though.
recovered all the deer though

An acquaintance has shot about 15 elk with 130 grain GS in his 270 winchester. All one shot kills. However, he never takes a shot further than 250 yards.
As already stated, it is an excellent hunting bullet.

When used in my 2506 the deer hit the ground so fast they actually kinda bounce. The best meat saving bullet ive found for the 2506. By that i mean less red jello. Never recovered a bullet but loonie sized exits say they expanded well
