Hi guys, This is the first time I am posting a new thread so please be kind.I have two Persian mauser for the past 30 years .One of them is a long model 98/29 and the other one is model 49 short rifle. The long rifle is in a good to very good condition with a shiny bore, and short one is in like new condition .Now my question is how much they worth and how rare is the short mauser in Canada.I am not too confident in posting pictures yet. Hopefully I will learn how to do it eventually. Thanks.

Last year or so i bought a 98/29.paid $1100,rifle in very good+ cond outside and the bore is virtually new like was never fired. They are quite rare in canada and the short model ones too. I was impressed by the quality of the 98/29, the material, fit and finish is superb.

Condition, condition, condition... Matching/non-matching.. Lot of stuff matter. I tend to see more 49s than 98/29 and I saw only one Persian VZ24. There were at least 3 or 4 on EE since Sep. 49s go cheaper than 98/29.

One reason may be, because the 49s are made in Iran, and don't possess the same fit and finish the 98/29 do.

Two years ago, I purchased a 98/29, new unissued, with serial number matching bayonet for 600.00.

IIRC, after the 1980 revolution in Iran and the famous hostage taking, US sanctions forced them to reopen the Mauser plant and begin making bolt action rifles once again.

I think all of them were the shorter M49s only. But I could be wrong on this.

This information is not correct. Since mid 1960 they are manufacturing HK G-3 rifles. During Iran and Iraq war ,Iran was in need of small arms desperately so they had to

reissue the m1 Garand's for a short period .Garand's were issued to basiji forces in a second and third line of defense.around 1981 large quantities of AK47(AKM) from

east Germany, china ,Syria, Russia and Poland resolved the shortage of small arms. For a long time now they are manufacturing and exporting a large variety of small arms.

Please don't ask me ,how do I know that!!!
