i am getting started in CAS & want to get a personal timer for practicing

i read some reviews and the Competitive Edge Pocket Pro II seems to be a good choice.
i see it for ~USD$120
i found it at the West Edmonton Shooting Store for $239
quite a price difference, are there any other places in Canada with a better price?

or do people prefer another timer?

The Pocket Pro is not the smallest or most sophisticated timer available, but it is quite simple to use and absolutely reliable. They are also the timers that I have seen most of the big SASS matches use.(EOT Winter Range etc.) Any quality timer will work well and they are indespensible for practice.

So, everyone is happy with the CED 7000??
At the 2 matches i have attended so far, they have been using the R U Ready timers, but holding the button and releasing seems to be a pain
Any downside to the CED 7000 (maybe the rechargeable battery)

My 7000 just quit unexpectedly in January. I sent it back and they replaced it.
I now keep the RU Ready in the bag just in case...

Since I have both, a 7000 and a RU -

With the RU, I like holding the button, rather than pressing it and I like the short beep opposed to the long one on the 7000. I prefer to RO with an RU. It's the K.I.S.S. principle - I have plenty of other things to pay attention to when officiating - getting a time and a beep is all I want.

With the 7000 - I like the adjustable sound level for indoors while practicing to really determine my splits and I like the different par settings so I can practice a couple things at once. I like the wrist strap so I can use it while practicing a long course alone. No problems (except as reported above - it might have been the batter y- who knows?) with the rechargable battery.

My opinion is that the 7000 is great for practice, with lots of helpful features, but the RU is better for RO'ing - K.I.S.S. principle.

I agree completely, I've used the CED 7000, CED 8000, and RU as an RO and the 7000 & RU during practice. I like the RU the most for RO'ing, by a long ways, find it just fine for practice. I wouldn't mind a CED 7000 for practice too for the same features already mentioned.

prefer the CED for RO'ing too. I like the ability to call back previous runs and double check things. I find it easier to hold as well, and the new belt clip rocks.
