Personally Rare-ish SVT-40

SVT 40 1941 Izhevsk serial number 1980

For my Birthday I got myself a gift after seeing this online I couldn't say no.
I was born July 29 1980 (for all those spying on me lol)

my question to the experts, how many times did the factories restart the numbering system for serial numbers? annually? monthly?

This rifle is not really unique in any way it is a 1941 Izhevsk with rails. I will take more pics when its done. Currently I have removed the refurb shellac and am oiling it up with true oil with its natural base just buffing it off with steel wool as to not remove the marks etc. Not everyday out of a rifle of 1.6 million made that you fine a serial number with the year you were born. Not sure how often they restarted from the count of 1 up to how many? experts?

Nice! It is an interesting thing about both the SVT and the SKS that they only used three andfour digit serial numbers plus letters so that
there are likely 160 other SVT's with 1980 as the serial number. I keep an eye out for SKS with 19-- as the serial numbers, so far
I have 1915 and 1987, one fortunate fellow CGNer has an SKS that is serialed 1945.

If I could find a 2011 of any type of this or similar rifle 91/30 sks whatever I want it for my daughter when she's older.

How did you remove the shellac? I'm considering giving the same treatment to my 1941 SVT-40... Does anyone know if a stock numbered like OPs with the prefix is original?

I used degreaser then hose then pat dry with towel.
Used Circa 1850 Soft Strip from home hardware
Used several coats (takes patience )
Use a scouring pad btw coats of varnish remover. I stripped an SKS with this SVT yesterday as as of now have 6 coats of true oil sanded with steel wool btw coats. So far this is my favorite method regarding looks. But also most labour intensive.

Denatured alcohol (or methyl hydrate) will remove shellac using either a nylon bristle brush or OOO stainless steel wool.

note i don't recommend hanging your rifles to airdry from the hooks used for flower baskets often. The police will drive by your house real slow.... and then after a few minutes real slow again lol. meh just pieces of wood.

Done or at least stopped her for now, i have a svt scope mount and scope just arranging for a cover before i put it on.
