I've been working lately on nailing down a good load for my PGW 50 and the last time out I think I got it finally.
I'm using 650gr ball rounds with US869 powder and IVI brass and so far, at 100yds I've managed to shoot this group.

With 750gr A-Max rounds I'm exactly 6" lower but really consistent!!! I'm going to try to get out this weekend and stretch it out but I'm finding it a lot harder to accurately shoot a 50cal consistent due to the concussion when the round goes off.
Looking at this target, my first two rounds were touching and then I pulled the third round. I knew as soon as I shot that I'd flinched, closed my eyes in anticipation of the blast, whatever I did I wasn't surprised to see it as far off as it was so I got up, did some stretching spyched myself up for the fourth round and shot the final shot which is almost on top of the 1st/2nd round.

I'm determined to get good with this gun and I know now it's going to take work!!!! The recoil isn't the issue, it's the turbulance you 'get' to be a part of from being so close to 13,000ft. lbs of energy taking off only 30" from your face. LOL

Of course a range day wouldn't be any fun unless we destroyed something so we brought out a PT cruiser to have some fun with!!

I'll try to upload some video also. It's totally worth watching.

Ok so by now you may have caught on that this isn't a real PT Cruiser though we wish it was. This car is/was almost 2 feet long and had served it's purpose so it was now time for it to serve another purpose. Watch this!! Click on the picture to watch the video.

Amen. :)

The odd thing was, while shooting at this car, I never felt the muzzle blast or bit of recoil this gun manages to produce so the lesson I went away with was, if you're going to shoot for groups, shoot at something you're excited about hitting accurately and you'll be surprised at what you can do when you concentrate.

If you have a good front rest, for $hits and giggles why don't you try comparing the results both ways. I know shooting my 338 with a front rest has improved my groups quite considerably. Of course, it's still nice to play around with just a bipod but I found more consistency from the rest when trying to dial my loads in. Maybe it's because I feel more comfortable with the front rest and perhaps it removes one variable from the equation...I don't know...?

I know. I used to shoot way better groups with my 338 also while using my big shooting bag up front. For me right now with this gun, I've gotta figure out a way to defect the gases from the muzzlebrake away from me. That's been my biggest challenge thus far shooting this gun. I'll bring out the bag this next time and maybe in the meantime, construct some kind of deflector so my face doesn't take such a beating.

I've been thinking about that too actually but with this brake being so light and short, it goes with the gun well. Maybe I'll play with that idea through the winter and see what I come up with in spring.

No, sorry. It wasn't me. I posted a buddy of mine's highly modified/accurised HS 50. I was out today confirming my 100yd zero and seeing how my ammo would fly consistently. My 650gr bullets needed 3.5moa from 100yd zero to get to 400yds and 29.5moa out to 1000yds but still stayed consistent which was good!! Anyone else have any load development on these guns?

In my LRT I run 233g of Vit 20N29 with 750 Amax and when I do my part will shoot 1/2 MOA or a tad better. Mine does have a 30 inch pipe as well. Theseare also mag length as well.

What are u trimming your brass to? Also, what is your overall bullet length?
I haven't tried VT powder yet but so far I'm having a blast figuring this gun out. I'm using 245gr of US869 seating just to mag length. I'll be taking advantage of this weather we're having and getting out a couple more times this week yet to confirm a few more calculations.

I have had good results out to 1000 with 233gr of 20n29n under Amax's and good results with 215gr and 220 gr of H-50 under Amax's. My friend makes custom 830 gr bullets I have tried 210 212 and 217 grains of H-50 all worked well but 217 was a tad better.

My buddy and I went out a couple of weeks ago and were shooting in high winds at 1100yds. Myself and my buddy both corrected 10MOA with the 50s get on target but it was gusting so it made it hard to get consecutive hits.

Love the pics of the PGW in the back of the X5. That's what I call doing it right! My long range rig with case just barely fits in the passenger seat of my M Coupe... I wonder if that will qualify me for the HOV lane :p

My project this summer was to take back the trunk of my E36 M3 so I could put my gun cases parallel to the bumper so I ditched the sub box behind the rear taillight and did a custom fiberglass enclosure in the spare tire well making a completely flat trunk floor. I also got rid of my 60" drag back now that I can fit my PGW 50 in the same drag bag my shorty 308 fits in.
My buddy and I have started working through the plans to build a new muzzle brake for the 50 so I don't need my plywood deflector. LOL. He has also ordered one since shooting mine.
