So finally got my dream rifle. But not to find a load that it loves. I bought some 300gr Berger elite hunters. I’ve been just loading at mag length for now. Had a couple groups at .5” with 88gr of h1000 then 3rd group opened up. Just wondering if anyone has some pet loads for
Their Timberwolf’s!!

One of my shooting buddies has a T-Wolf.........IIRC he uses H1000 and 250 gr. Lapua Scenars and Bergers.........

Are you looking for hunting loads or long range accuracy loads ???

Suggest you identify the appropriate projectile first based on your application, and the twist rate of the rifle.

For example, Berger Elite Hunters may be a good choice for hunting, but does the twist rate support 300gr or would a lighter projectile be more appropriate.

Next, measure your chamber to determine seating depth. Many of my rifles like 10-thou of jump to the lands. Beware potential pressure spikes seating on the lands or jamming.

Are you using Lapua brass? New? 1F? Did you prep the brass or just take it from the box and shoot it? Sometimes the necks get dinged in transport so they're not perfectly round.

Also, what setup are you using? Single stage press? Brand of dies? Are you measuring seating depth with a comparator, etc?

Select propellent - H1000, US869 seem to be pretty common for .338 LM.

Start low and work up...keep us posted on progress!

Reply to Skullboy. Well I was hoping to get lucky and find a .5 load consistently with the 300gr Berger’s at mag length that I could hunt with. But might just have to start from scratch which gets expensive.

1/10 twist. Factory Timberwolf Krieger.
I have measured seating length but 140thou jump at mag length
Lapua brass. Once fired resized with Redding type s bushing dies.
Forster coax for sizing. RCBS for seating because of length. And yes with comparator.
I’m
Just not wanting to blow a bunch of money finding a good load. Here’s hoping!!

Lapua 300 grain Scenars work well in Timberwolves as does the new N565 which was developed for the .338 Lapua Magnum. Load data is on the VihtaVuori site.
We had good luck with 250 grain Scenars in our BAT Machine with 12T barrel. 250s will also work fine in 10T. Federal Magnum primers are recommended by Lapua.

I’ve had a couple of PGW’s and the T-Wolf shot factory Lapua 250 scenars, 250 lockbase, and 300 scenars all extremely well. Work up a load with those as a starting point and you should find a decent load fairly quick.

When I had mine it loved 300 grain SBT with 92 grains of Retumbo, accuracy was excellent however I had to use a mallet to get the bolt open. It liked H1000 too, I think it was 88-89 grains. Again had to reduce charge to get the bolt open. YMMV.

Well thanks for all the info. I decided to sell it and am having one of my Remington actions rebarreled from IBI since they are just down the road and they make the barrels for PGW now as well. Soooo gonna start from scratch and see what it will do. I know it’s no T wolf but it’s a new barrel so no excuses!

Here was mine with the 72mm Hensoldt Hubble light bucket scope:) No doubt the gun was accurate, very accurate indeed, just couldn’t load it hot. Used lapua brass, magnum match primers, Redding titanium competition dies, all nice goodies, loaded the ammo the same way I did thousands and thousands of .308, 30-06 over the years. No shortcuts:)

So...ask yourself why did you need a "mallet" to open the bolt with that load? How do you size?

Here's my .3moa one mile plinking load for my C14.

Brass: Lapua
Primer: Federal 215 magnum
Bullet: 300gr SMK
Powder: Retumbo 93.6gr
Seating: .010" ogive to lands (for accuracy and keeping pressures workable)

Shoulder bump with a Whidden bushing bump die is .0015". This is a moderate high load. Very easy bolt lift. No pressure signs. No ejector marks. So, I'm not sure what your issue is. But I have a good idea it might be the way you sized. I shot my C14 today to the mile. Fifty rounds....no bolt lift problems.

I have had 19 cycles from almost half of my Lapua brass. But this is more a factor of how I process it.

While I've never tried H1000, I would agree that it is a great choice for the LM round (caveat).

Your results (should not) may vary.
