If they are too busy, they should at least post something on their site indicating so. Now that they have the contract for the CF Rifles, they couldn't give a #### about the indvidual customer. Money talks and no matter how many people say Ross and Steve are "good" guys, they could at least have the courtesy to respond to peoples e-mails. Maybe they should take a lesson from McMillan. They have forgotten more about building sniper rifles and stocks( doesn't the Timberwolf have an A-5 stock) than PGW will ever know and they have been around a long time. They also have more current contracts around the world. They still do not forget the individual customer and I am speaking from experience. Supporting a Canadian company only goes so far. It works both ways.PGW will never get squat from my wallet.

I understand your frustration to a point, but on the flip side the temporary inconvieniance of not having PGW respond quickly in my opinion is greatly out weighed by the fact that the CF is finaly using a Canadian gun maker to supply our troops, I personaly think this is excellent and about time. Our troops are getting a firearm that will out perform anything out there and this will probably spin off to other countries.....so good on PGW. In time PGW may be able to expand and supply both, but be patient I say. If in a major hury to get a PGW rifle...why not contact a builder like ATRS and use a PGW action, I know Rick builds rifles using PGW actions. I for one can vouch for his workmanship and tell you he is an excellent guy to deal with. And I say again, I would rather see those rifles getting to our guys that need them in Afganistan and other areas, rather than us take priority to get rifles for punching paper or god's furry critters.;)

Just an opinion!!

Valid.....But why don't they take a few minutes to post a notice on their web-site.
After the CF contract (for what, 500 rifles?) is finished they will be looking for business again and they could be very sorry that they alienated their retail customers.

Same story here, I wanted to buy an action for a new project. After a month of watiting and my 3rd email I recieved a terse 3 line response.
If they start looking for business after their military project it may be too late.

A simple autoanswer system explaining that they are busy and will try to get back would go a long way to easing discontent.

BTW I could find no Phone # either...otherwise I would have called..

I think the fact that they landed a multi million dollar contract for the military is info enough as to why they are not responding to emails. They are busy as hell.
I can't imagine how many emails they probably recieve daily since the contract became public. Both serious inquries and probably alot tire kickers.
Ross and Steve have been around long time. They are loyal to there customers. They have helped me out several times regardless of how busy they are.Always helped me out when I have a rifle issue.
People need to relax a little and be patient.

Peter

Good things come to those who wait. This includes customers. These guys could take a dump on my car
hood, and i'd still buy an m-15 in 260 remmy, when
they get a chance ;) The quality is worth it. An they're
great guys.

Same old story...

When people find a gunsmith that is not busy, they ##### because the work was not up to expectation.

When they hear about a great gunsmith, they ##### because they can t get the job done...

I wander if there is a logical explanation!?
;)

Multi Million dollor contract or not, it is a one time deal, what are they going to retire after the contract is complete? Don't get me wrong, I had the PGW guys built up my 700P and a vision of perfection it was, but ever since this DND contract came up, it has been different at PGW and by no means is this a dig at them, I have nothing but the utmost respect for them, but as was said before, if they are that busy, post something, it takes 2 minutes to type out an explanation and if someone wants a rifle, it takes even less to tell them they are not taking oreders, or what, at the most, an hour to take an order! As for the best, I would strongly disagree, I am not saying they are not good, becasue they are good, very very good, but there are a couple of other builders here in Canada that are just as good. If I was not getting the service from one company, I would try another one, especially when I am willing to shell out $5000.00.

I second LongRangeCanuks proposal on using other riflesmiths. I had the same delima with PGW and HS Precission (sold out of STR) just recently and know Rick at Alberta Tactical is building me a 700P LTR. That man really cares about his customers. The way you get treated is out standing he really took the time to listen to what I was wanting and inform me of what is available out there for the money I was wanting to spend. He also did it in a way that I ended up with the rifle I wanted....not what the smith wanted. I actually ended up spending much less for the rifle I was hoping to get. For sure the best experince in purchasing a rifle I have had yet. Always heard back from Rick with in 24 hrs or less and he is super bizzy as well.

Steve and Ross also care about there customers, but like I said before with there new contract do you think they really have time right now to build other rifles? Also ATR does not have a DND contract , so they have the time right now to build his customers there rifles.

It really should not matter that Steve and Ross are busy. I simple reply is all that's necessary. Just tell your prospective customers "Sorry, we are unable to accept new orders until date X, please contact us again after that and we will be pleased to give you a quote and begin building your new rifle." If they want repeat customers or new customers they need to keep on top of things like this.

My friend and I are having two rifles built by Rick at ATR. We are using a Timberwolf action. The rifles are 300winMag so the only modification needed is to the bolt face so it is relatively easy getting one from PGW. The only slight complication is that bigger steel stock is needed for the barrel (1.3" instead of 1.2"). The guy Rick is getting the barrel from only charges an extra $25 for the thicker stainless barrel. Other then that we are using a McMillan A5 stock, jewel trigger, versa pod bipod and US Optics SN3 scopes.

Those two guys are maxed out right now, work is far busier than I think they expected, and they are doing their best to keep up with customers that have already paid. It's not rude of them to not reply, they'll get back to you eventually, but you have to understand that they have a very very long list of customers to get back to. Their business has taken off far faster than they were thinking, and just working in the back making the guns is taking up all their time. Steve is down at SHOT right now, and will likely comment on this thread later on (once he's good and drunk ;)). But they have to focus on the big contracts right now, and make sure their products are up to snuff when they go out the door. They don't mean to not respond to people, but it's inevitable during this kind of rapid growth that a few balls might get dropped for a bit.
As for hiring more people, they are both very finicky about who comes to work for them, and having a defence contract probably adds another pain to hiring people and putting them through record checks etc. It's probably easier for them to just continue on until the rush dies down.
