ive got a old tx1200 and its been a nice gun but now its getting a pit past it and needs a re barrel but looking for a cal change as i have other 308s that get more use

was look for c3 bits to do a c3 rep ,but there to hard to find over here like the mag kit

what cal can you get to fit in them ?

what have people got these chambered in ?

can you stretch them out to 7mm rm mag ?

thanks guys

You can rebarrel and chamber to pretty much any of the standard cartridges with the bolt face you have (243, 308, 30-06, 270, etc, etc). For the 06 length cartridges you will have to change the magbox, maybe massage the feedlips a little and/or the follower. If you open up the bolt face and the mag box, you can go to any of the standard length magnums, 7mm Rem Mag, 300 Win Mag, 358 Norma Mag etc, etc, etc. If you stretch the opening a bit (some VERY judicious cutting) you can fit the 300 H&H and the 375 H&H as well, lots were built on 98 Mauser actions, which is basically what you have. They are a pretty good action, and you can do a lot with them. I have a few in various calibers. - dan

The 338 Edge (parent case 300 RUM) has a rebated rim, which is the same size as a 338 Win Mag. Feeding will be an issue, and it will require a fair bit of work by someone competent to make it work. Shouldn't be that big of a deal if you want a single shot. You will still have to open up the receiver opening a bit, unless you're happy removing the bolt to eject unfired cartridges. - dan

Get a new rifle. Simple. Marlin XL7, Stevens 200 will set you back less than a rechamber/rebarrel and be one more rifle you have. I'm all for rechambering and stuff, but reserve that for odd-balls that can't be bought.

Why not go with the 7mm Rem like you mentioned in your first post? My other choice, if you're thinking of something other than a magnum, would be the 6.5x55mm Swedish.
As for the C3 thing, the original C3 used the regular floorplate, it wasn't until they upgraded to the C3A1 that they added the mag system. I think that a tx1200, with the nice wood stock looks better with the floorplate myself, besides, you'd have to machine the bottom of the receiver for the mags to work, if you could find them. If you were starting with a 1200C that would be different, since it's the same as the C3A1 bottom metal, just need to source some C3 or M87 mags. That's the setup I have on my 1200C .300 Win Mag .
