I would love to show you guys a pic of my sweet new 10/22 sbr but photobucket (mobile) is being a total beach right now. Will get back ASAP with pics. Long story short -I put on an 8" barrel and now the reliability has suffered. Break-in required? Or modification? (3-4 jams per clip, stovepipes, FTE, FTFeed, double feed, you name it) it seems to perfer BC mags. Using CCI's and Rem thunderbolts currently (no difference really)

When you reinstalled the barrel did the ejector and cut for the ejector in the barrel line up perfectly? Seems like a good candidate for the problems.

It is a sported chamber. Also, the extractor is lined up with the slot in the breechface (as far as I can tell with my eyes anyway). And no, I am not fre recoiling it -although I did try free recoil a few times and it was definetly worse when I did that.

Try shining up the inside of the receiver where the bolt rides, also polish the guide rod, if those two don't work the chamfer the back bottom side of the bolt! The last one makes a noticeable difference.

And maybe try some federal bulk, it's seemed to work wonderfully in all 5 10/22's I have owned!

Good luck sir.

I usually use federal but I was unable to find any recently. I will polish the receiver if a 500 rd break in does not suffice. Could someone Please explain the word "chamfer" in this context?

Chamfer = Round.... Round the area that contacts the hammer do a google search on chamfering a 10/22 bolt

Update**
I cleaned her and went out today. Ran 12 clips of the thunderbolt (ruger + BC mags) for a total of 210rds. Had only 3 "stovepipe" style FTE's. 2 of which occurred during free-recoil experimenting. So all in all that's quite promising for a 22LR. I will get up some pics ASAP because she looks unbelievable! I will tack em up on the 10/22 pic thread so stay tuned!
