Pic of M14 KABOOM!!! (Springfield)

kaboom

Indeed very lucky or very unlucky depends on how you see this.

I read some of the comments and the investigation of the M14 by Fulton Armory, but did not see any thoughts or actions on checking the rest of this suspicious surplus ammo????

One of our board members Norinco M305's blew up on the first round he fired out of it......do a search, he had pics and it was only a few months ago.

I was the one that had the m305 blow up. Does scare the crap out of you, but what are you going to do? Simple, clean out the load you just left in your pants & head back to the range!

That is scary.
What's crazy is that is left hand was on the magazine when it went off. He's lucky it wasn't on the forearm. That would be a ####ty way to loose all your fingers.
Note to self: do not shoot 45 year old german ammo.

Pretty old news, happened a number of years ago with a Springfield Armoury Inc. M1A rifle IIRC. It was apparently traced to faulty barrel steel. The same thing has occurred to certain Sako SS barrels recently. This can happen to any make, any rifle, any time. Don't let it stop you from buying your favourite toys though. These things are very rare occurrences. Life just ain't perfectly safe no matter what you do or don't do ;)

I think i might start wearing my glasses now to the range..... lol.......

nice pics ... a wake up call to everyone running old garbage through there M14.

You know what's interesting? It looked like Desporterizer's rifle barrel failed in a very simillar way yet his reciever held togather.

The difference between a cast (Springfield) and a forged (Norinco) reciever?

New Vs Used

If an M14 blows up in your face, you'll be wishing you would have done everything to avoid it.........

:p I'm just glad my Norinco M14 was brand new, manufactured a year ago. Appearently there made to a pretty hi standard now, and well machined, supposetly produced to higher standard:D with tougher parts then it's US counterpart. No wonder there banned in the US.... It's Hi quality Chinees manufacuring, thats mass produced. I'm glad i got one for $499.....
New M14's were made this fall, and will be available at www.marstar.ca after the new year..... !!!!!!!!!! I may be picking up a second one, especially with the 1 year warrenty

Well, consider this:
There are 10's of thousands of Springfield M1A's out there and only one documented K-Boom...........and there are only a few hundred Norinco M14's in Canada already with one documented K-boom......

To tell you the truth if the cracking had occurred in the Norinco barrel as it did in the Springfield model I am sure that the outcome would have been similar to those pictures posted there yet to be any real data that the Forged receiver is any better than the Cast receivers. I have seen pics of rifles with forged actions come apart even more dramatically with injuries more severe.
