I like the look. It is a great comination of the wood and stainless steel.

You dont see too many with the wood and stainless steel?

Wow! The stock looks way better on your rifle than in my closet! Damn! I knew I should have kept it! ;) Glad you like it.

Fine looking shooting iron there Riflechair :)

I've been thinking about this wood/stainless thing lately too. The only worry would be that when the 'satin finish' that most manufacturers use finally gets dinged and worn the wood would soak up moisture in extreme conditions and you wouldn't have a true all weather rifle. In fact most of them do nothing to seal the inside of the stock so water take up could happen from new. Not a concern for most climates, but it is around here.

But if such a stock was stripped and treated with say 15 coats of hand rubbed tung oil inside and out you'd have a gorgeous looking rifle IMO and one that would be an all weather rifle.

I'm thinking stainless for a new rifle but I just can't get used to hugging a chunk of black synthetic stuff

What was that stock off of Riflechair, an older model 70??

Order up a bottle of Schaftol from Bits of Pieces. It works very well, I like it better than Tung Oil.

Hi Guys
I'm afraid I'm a Boiled Linseed Oil Fan.

You're right Salty.
At the moment the stock currently enjoys a factory varnish however that won't last much longer.

The Stock will receive a serious BLO treatment inside and out AFTER I bed the action. That way I will not be wasting an oil treatment until I know the barrel is free floated.

Cheers

Richard
