This photocopied pic came with an auction lot I picked up. Thought it was interesting that the soldiers are all equipped with the P14.

Awesome pic. Thanks for sharing. I wonder if the writing is Whitley Camp?

Witley Camp (or, Camp Witley) in Surrey, England was established in January 1915 as a training camp for both British and Canadian soldiers. Soldiers serving in the Canadian Expeditionary Force (C.E.F.), were put through basic training at Witley, and camps like it throughout England.

They kind of look like new recruits of the day.

Thanks for posting this nice pic. The rifles are either Remington or Winchester made and come from English stores. More than likely other equipment was English as well. One soldier has a helve carrier which was only Brit manufacture. Canada did get a small batch of P-14s
during the war but none were issued. The supply system couldn't handle spares and after the 100,000 rifles swap (Rosses for SMLEs) worked out in 1916 our lads had good equipment. To the best of my knowledge only Eddystone rifles were received by Canada with the so-called fat boy fore. By order of Sam Hughes all soldiers did carry a Mk III Ross with them to England though.
