I drilled & tapped my 870 Police receiver today for my Mesa Tactical rail
I originally wanted their saddle rail that attached to the trigger group pins but heard they can act like diving boards unless they’re really locked down or shimmed.
It didn’t take long and was easy all-in-all but I puckered up when I was tapping the #5-40 holes. If I broke the tap I would’ve been screwed…
I didn’t drill & tap the forward hole because the receiver is so thin there. This Mesa Tactical rail is originally designed to mount on Tactical receivers that are tapped in the forward location but I didn’t want to because there wouldn’t have been adequate thread engagement. Plus I'd have to make an extra short screw...It’ll be skookum without it…
I also blackened the holes because I HATE corrosion and will eventually install the screw with Loctite, which will limit rust in there too.
Now I’ll have to sell some more smack to buy an EoTech...
