Picatinny rail / weaver rail

My understanding is: Everything fits picatinny (weaver/picatinny mounts) but only weaver fits weaver. Both have identical profile, but the picatinny slots are wider and rigidly defined, while weaver rails can have many different slot shapes and spacing. I have seen "weaver" rails with half round slots to make clearance for a cross-bolt and full square/rectangle slots similar to a picatinny rail.
