savage mod.16 short action ..installed a compact scope 3x10-40mm and now i can't move the scope further back for proper eye relieve ..2 solutions cut 1 inch off rear stock or install picatinny rail ..found this rail but it is expensive ..http://www.kenfarrell.com/SAV-RTL-1-40.html ,,,there must be a cheaper one ,with the same quality ???? lets hear some suggestions ...

Don't cut your stock that's a horrible idea. There are cheaper picatinny rails but also cheaper alternatives. If it was me I'd put a weaver 402 base on the front and a weaver 46 on the rear. The 402 allows front scope ring to be mounted closer to the rear allowing proper eye relief. I have done this on many many rifles. The other option is extension rings which are offset so the ring is closer to your eye but still mounts on your current base. You could use both together to gain even more movement. Weaver picatinny rails can be found for $40-50 if you'd rather go that route.

get a rail from EGW, they a have a variety of options available. extended rails, 0 MOA, 20 MOA, aluminum or steel heavy duty ones.

Weaver makes a number of mounts and rails that will solve your problem. Most of them are $15 or less. Any good gun store will have a bunch that should do the job as Savages have lots of different Weaver bases available for them.
