Pick up a Browning BLR .223rem

I just traded my BLR 81 in .223 and loved that gun. Great handling straight stock was easier to handle than the pistol grip .270 I have right now. Never missed a varmint with it at shots at up to 260 yards. A pleasure to shoot if you can dismiss the trigger pull......the trigger lightning .270 is still better. Don't know if it was worked on since I bought it used but most gunsmiths won't touch these guns...

It's a fine coyote rifle, but not much of a target gun. Straight grip is more comfortable in terms of working the lever fast. Some jurisdictions permit. 223REM for deer and caribou. With a premium bullet it will do the job, but there are much better choices available. I have no idea as to Nova Scotia's hunting regs, so check before hitting the woods.

I can second many of the thoughts here. I had until a few years ago, a takedown straight grip 308 and it was really a fine hunting rifle. I bought it for the takedown feature since I never had a takedown gun before. It is handy for somethings, it breaks apart into a handy sized package (was my truck gun) and makes cleaning a snap. I had the set up for the barrel mounted 2.5X scope so I never had any accuracy problems, although the scout scope set up may not be what you want for long range or target practice, it was a great hunting gun. But with all that said, if I was to do it over again (and I might, I really liked that gun) I think I would just go for the non-takedown model. As handy as it was for some things, a levergun is already a nice and slim package to slip behind the seat of your truck or carry while walking about when out in the bush.

If you like leverguns and just want to shoot at the range, I wouldn't discourage you from getting a BLR in .223 if that is what floats your boat. Ya a boltgun could be had easier and cheaper, but hey if that was what it was all about nobody would shoot anything but a Stevens 30-06, variety is the spice of life.
