This is the first shotgun i own, and had a couple of questions before i bring it to the range for the first time.

What slugs would you recommend I use? any better than others? or is shot better for this?

Is it possible to get a muzzle break installed? If so, what else is needed for this.

Any other relevant info for a first time shotgun user would be great as well

Thanks all

Love my Derya! They are a lot of fun. Check with your range first what they will allow. Usually not a lot of options for what they allow. Mine shoots pretty accurate with Remington 00BK.

Other than that, clean it well and run it a little wet before you go. Enjoy it!

I chased several brands for a while and found none were accurate enough. Then I channel on youtube recommended Winchester 2 3/4 1600 1oz. I tried them and they consistently print 2" groups at 50m for me and my buddy does in his Derya too.

Yes muzzle brakes are available but do little as these guns are already tame.

Mod the mags is a big improvement. To avoid over insertion causing bolt freeze bend out a small area just below the mag catch hole in the mag. This will stop the mag from being pushed in too far.
The break in period can take between 50 and 200 shells to complete depending on how powerful the shells are. Until the gun is broke in expect lots of stoppages. Have patience and don't sell it in frustration. After the break in these things run like a swiss watch. I haven't had a stoppage in the last 750 shells! and they are just 3dr 1oz target loads!

Cheers

Any info on possibly shortening the recoil spring rather than firing 100 to 200 expensive heavy loads? When you broke your Derya in were you shooting slugs or buckshot or just regular heavy game loads? Some owners say it has to be slugs which is an expensive way to go.

I used just light field loads and a 25 box of buck on my first gun and the same on the second sans buck. In both cases the break in was done in about 150 shells. My buddy had his done in about 75 shells using about 50 buck and 25 light loads. If you are trying to save time use slugs and buck. If you are trying to save money it wont save you a dime to use light loads because you need to shoot so much more but you do get more practice that way. What ever you do, please do not shorten any springs or mod the gun buffer system. To do so will get you no where and likely shorten the guns lifespan or reliability will suffer. You mention 100 to 200 expensive heavy loads. I never said to do that. Just the other day I bought a case of 250 shells, Federal #7.5, 3 dram for $65. Just that will have you done and shells left.

Just wondering where you lucked in to buy Just the other day I bought a case of 250 shells, Federal #7.5, 3 dram for $65. Just that will have you done and shells left. I picked up a box of 100 Winchester 3" #2 at CTC says "high velocity" for $69, so tomorrow I will find my favorite cut block and start firing from the waist to save the shoulder.

I bought the Derya lightly used and sure didn't like the Remington 00 buck managed recoil. I also tried Challenger 2/3/4 game loads and it cycled just fine. We'll see how it works out.

Is that what causes the binding some times, it skips past the bottom of the opening?

How much further out does it need to come to work properly, about the thickness of the sheet metal?

Thanks for the tip!

Just an update, I pushed around 85 rounds thru her today and then tried a mag of Remington reduced recoil buckshot and it only hung up on the last round, the first 4 fed thru just like the 3" Wins I was using for break in. Big change from when I first tried the gun as it was hanging up on each round. I'll push 50 more through tomorrow and then we'll see if it runs like a Swiss watch.

Towards the end with the 3"ers I did get 2 or 3 light primer strikes but recjmabered each round again and off they went.

Back out today and put another 50 heavy loads thru the gun and it now handles target loads with ease. Amazing that you have to break the gun in, so any new Derya owners with a feeding problem just keep on shooting.

Give it a tear down and clean now. You will probobly get alot of junk out of it by now and it will be noticeably smoother. Cleaned mine after about 100 or so rounds and the gun loosened up very nicely.

Regarding the deal I got PM sent. The light Remington 00 buck you used would be the same energy as light bird shot and would not be reliable until the break in is done.

Yup not much. The thickness of the metal is plenty.

Glad to see it runs good now.
