Picked up this nice one on Thursday. Great little non-refurb and all matching 1926 mfgr BRNO VZ24. Pre-rampant (rampart - lol) lion czech military VZ24 with a 1926 czech army acceptance stamp. Nice walnut thstock that hasn't been sanded and has a great oxidized flax oil finish that is so well handled it almost looks like varnish.

I don't see how this one would NOT be an axis-issued weapon in WW2 after Czechoslovakia's annexation in 1938. It's either a vet bringback, or a war reparations rifle that came in before the big importers started applying markings in the 1960's.

Refreshing change from the usual refurbs.

Nice one Ron,

I'd like a VZ24 from this era for my collection as well.

collector67: It's actually those Baltic 5ea Wars you're thinking of. ;) ;)

Really nice VZ. Personally I think the VZ 24 is superior in workmanship to the pre war German K98k's. Anyone on here own a VZ23? I've never even seen one except in photos.

Same here unless there is a missing piece of info.

Nice early VZ, Claven, let us know how she shoots :). Where do you find these rifles ?

I, uh, have a knack for it?

You'd be surprised - a lot of ppl contact me out of the blue offering to sell me nice stuff. I guess I have a reputation for being a higher-end buyer (?).

I cant believe that thing hasn't sold yet.

Considering the price of nazi K98's, I'm surprised as well that a Nazi-ownership marked VZ23 isn't selling like a hot cake. IMHO, it's priced $500 too cheap. I know the seller very well (full disclosure), but that's my honst opinion. ANY vz23 is rare, a firing-proof marked VZ23 owing to an immediately-post-annexation 1938 re-barrel is a near impossible find.

The numbered bands, blued bolt, etc. are all classic nazi refurb hallmarks, in this case just as the Heereswaffenampt was taking control of the BRNO factory.

I would buy it myself if I didn't already have too many other irons in the fire right now.

So in other news, I got my original VZ24 cleaning rod in from Liberty Tree. It's actually not a repro, which is surprising for the $22 it cost. Decently matched wear and patina too. Of course, it didn;t screw it. Teh cleaning rod channe had old mud in it. I have a special tool for cleaning out the stock channels (yes, this is a common issue on milsurps) so I cleaned the channel and nut and it screwed right in :)

Now all I need is a sling...

Anyone know of eny real Czech VZ24 sligns for sale, or failing that, a decent repro that does NOT have Japanese markings on it to mimic a type99 sling?

Mountain State Supply used to sell a GREAT repro before they went out of business :(
