Actually impressed is an understatement. It's a t-bolt model in really nice condition with all 3 sights, bluing looks new, original wood finish and quick detachable sling. I cleaned it all up and was surprised how much color case hardening is going on in the action, bolt handle, trigger, screws, rainbow coloured steel everywhere. And what a nice light and crisp trigger! Wow.

I set up a target and fired 5 shots of CCI Quiet from 35m out, not super far but it is what I had to work with. I just wanted to see where it was hitting and test function, and to my astonishment I approached the target to discover all five rounds went into a super tiny one hole group smaller than 1/2"!

I have NEVER been able to get CCI Quiets to group like that in any other gun, it blew me away. I can't wait to see what it's capable of at 50-100m with good ammo. Also as a bonus it is literally quieter than my springer air rifle with quiets due to the long barrel.

I now understand why people are so smitten with the old mossbergs. This thing's a shoe-in for the "My 22 shoots 1/2" groups at 50 yards/meters all day! Really Prove it!" Thread.

Well it's my first, and I'm impressed. Next on the list must be a 144 LSB lol

I learned today these barrels were triple lead lapped! Unreal... I have to wonder what this gun would cost if produced today. Over a grand I'd bet. This one shoots easily as tight as the BSA martini's and internationals I've played with. Un-frickin-believable.

Nice rifle and I agree with super7, the old ones were made by people who were proud of their workmanship.

I have a compact M-142-A in need of a magazine.
I have a component parts list and Price List No. 57. Covers Rifles, Shotgun and Telescopic Sights.
The price listed for the magazine complete for a 142-A $1.50 give you any idea how old it is.

Haha, that's what took me sooo long to pick one up. All I knew is their newer stuff. Night and day.

See, you should listen to us old guys.
Besides a 144, then you're gonna want a 46B and a 44. Then you're gonna want some full wood models. Then you are gonna be at the doctor for a diagnosis of Mossbergitis. I'll tell you now he's gonna tell you there's no cure!!!
I'm not sure why but I have a fondness for the model 46 variants. Might be it's because my first Mossberg was a 46B (still have it) that my Aunt gave me after my uncle died. He was in the military and I kind of think he used it for military training. At first I thought "what an ugly gun" and it sat in a discarded corner for years. One day about 5 years ago, I pulled it out and really started looking at it. I was amazed, intriqued and hooked!!

Hey looks like we both were shooting our mossies today!
I put fifty rounds down the pipe of the one I got a while ago.
First time shooting it after a teardown and cleanup.
What an awesome quality feeling gun, mine's a 46M.

I bet you wished you had picked it up earlier. I know I'm intrigued... It's the first gun I've taken apart, inspected, and really been thoroughly impressed at the quality of the parts and overall build. The way it's built, high quality engineering and manufacturing, it truly is a gem. I've said it before but damn, they sure don't make them like this anymore.

Right? It is an awesome quality feeling gun. Just the action smoothness alone, the tolerances are tight, not all loose goose like the newer guns in this price range. It certainly feels and shoots like a much more expensive rifle than it is.

That gun looks familiar - glad to see your enjoying it.
