Thoght I'd try out a Tract scope, not really a fan of buying things sight unseen so to speak, however, they're reviews were good, the Japanese construction and German glass seemed like a good combo to check out, price worked out to be as good as the exchange rate would allow, no duty, just GST and Cda Post clearance @ 10.00. Tract doesn't have distributors, have to order direct from them in US. I got sent a step by step tutorial of how to apply for a Cdn import certificate from Tract, owner answered an e-mail at a silly time of day, that I wasn't expecting an answer on right away, but got one. Apparently he has a terminal at home and checks it regularly, thus the quick answer. I just paid for it right away, copied and pasted the invoice onto the Cdn certificate application and sent it in next day. It took a couple of weeks to get. Tract has to apply for an export permit, no charge, that took a month, bit longer than I was expecting, but, he said he'd had some that were 6 wks. It also had a few other scopes listed on it, some rings, etc, so, he used the permit for more than one shipment. Took another 2-1/2 wks to get to me, 8 days in Canada Customs.
Anyhow, pretty impressed, L.O.W body is a solid SOB, all controls are reallly nice and smooth to operate, clicks on turrets are better defined than the ones I have on a Delta Stryker, nice and solid, no popup rev indicator like the Delta. Zero stop ring is shipped in a separate bag, turret caps are lift to release and push down to lock like the rest of the L.O.W turrets are. Turrets are well marked, smooth to operate,no issue there, they are good ones.
This one is a 4-20x50 Toric UHD Mrad FFP PRS 30mm model, reticle setup is readily useable at 4x, it's pretty thin, center area disappears aginst a dark background on dark object in last 15min of light, that was expected, as it is a very thin crosshair with an open center and a very small dot in the middle. But, it has illumination, and that works nicely on it for that time period. It will be nice to use on the range the way it is done, they put some thought into it, and it isn't a cluttered view.
Glass is Schott as they say, it's good glass, no question there, it's clear and works really well for me.
Picked up one of their levels whilst I was at it, it is hinged and easy to install, like that setup, has a liner similar to a Burris XTR in it too.
All in all, looks like it was worth the wait, so, if you have considered a Tract, don't be afraid of ordering one, it is worth the extra effort and time. The Toric UHD are all on L.O.W chassis, which have earned a good name and are also used in a good number of other brands, but, as far as I can tell, Tract is the only one not using Japanese glass, not that there is anything wrong with that either. My Delta has Japanese glass on an L.O.W chassis and it's a damned good deal on that level of scope, they've upgraded a couple of things on them since I got mine as well, I'd buy one again, but, I'd be very tempetd to buy another Tract as well. Tract's specs on the turrets is a good one, they are good, solid clicks on there. Power ring is easier to turn than the Delta one is, pretty much no difference in the focus setup.
For whatever all that blather is worth to someone who may be looking in that direction, rest at ease, Tract are good to go.
