I am BEAT. I got off work, managed to get 2 hrs sleep, then headed off to Mission to clean up other people's crap. Thanks to everyone who showed up! Which was about a third of those who said they would, from both websites.
By the time I arrived, the others had already disappeared up the trail. I immediately headed to my "favourite" clean-up spot, a side trail that is usually covered in shotgun shells. It didn't disappoint.
While I was cleaning this area, Jeff and Bob from the Mission RCMP stopped by on their quads, and off-loaded a few garbage bags onto my flatdeck. I spent over an hour there, and I couldn't tell I had been there. My back needed a break, so I headed up the road and met up with Jeff and Bob on another side trail, who had filled a kiddie-pool with garbage and were dragging it out with their quads, along with a few more bags of garbage. These guys are hard workers! We loaded it all onto my truck, then headed down to the shelter for lunch and to off-load my truck.
Lunch was hotdogs, smokies, and home-made potato salad. Thanks to Mrs. Wanderer (Jan) for making the salad last night. And thanks to DodgeBoyKim for chef duties.
After lunch, most of us headed back to the area that I was working on. After several hours, we got it looking pretty respectable.
Loading up XCR User's truck
Cleaning up the target area; one of the RCMP officers got a "before" photo, and I'll post it when I get it. It was pretty awful.
Polecat's trailer
Yep, we did that!
Looks so much better. Sad to say that in a week, it'll be back to the same old, same old.
Garbage was starting to fall out of the bin door, so we closed it and started tossing bags over the side.
GOOD JOB BY ALL!
Thanks to:
Super Save Disposal for the garbage bin and the metal bin, and for transportation of the bins.
District of Mission for free use of the landfill.
Tim Hortons in Mission (the one just down the street from High Calibre Services) for the coffee, tea, hot chocolate, TimBits, and garbage bags.
Dave from High Calibre Services for chipping in for the food, even though he couldn't be there in person.
Ministry of Forests and Ministry of Environment for the garbage bags.
My organizer Mrs. Wanderer for making all the phone calls and arranging everything.
And of course, thanks to the crew from CanadianGunNutz.com, the usual suspects from Quads.ca, and the two Aux Officers from Mission RCMP. Without you, this effort would not have been possible.
