Pics of a new Shorty 454 - and here's a shorter one yet!!

Ike and I where able to chronograph my loads in his 5.5" barreled SRH when we got together for the ATC shoot a few weeks ago.

Here are the velocities from the 5.5" SRH;

240gr XTP-Mag 1800fps

300gr XTP-Mag 1450fps

360gr C/P WLNGC 1500fps

395gr C/P WLNGC 1365fps

Yowza! they were going that fast? No wonder my wrist was sore.

Actually the recoil wasn't too bad, especially on the heavier bullets. Got my attention but didn;t kock my fillings loose. They made my 390s at 1250 fps seem like pussycats.
Cheers

That's nutz... I thought hot .44magnums were brutal. I can't imagine the punishment you guys put yourselves through.

Here is the data for the 7.5" and 4.25" for comparison...

240gr XTP-Mag's 38grs H110 Rem 7.5 primer
4.25"
1) 1650
7.5"
1) 1890

300gr XTP-Mag 30grs H110 Rem 7.5 primer
4.25"
1) 1408 2) 1444 3) 1430 4) 1445
7.5"
1) 1529 2) 1481 3) 1599 4) 1535

454 Casull 360gr Cast Performance WLNGC's 27grs Lil-Gun Rem 7.5 primer
4.25"
1) 1455 2) 1425 3) 1485 4) 1490 5) 1435 6) 1448
7.5"
1) 1553 2) 1580 3) 1593 5) 1571 5) 1587 6) 1583

454 Casull 395gr Cast Performance WFNGC's 24grs Lil-Gun Rem 7.5 primer (I only have 50 of these left so only shot 3 in each gun)
4.25"
1) 1351 2) 1320 3) 1318
7.5"
1) 1405 2) 1385 3) 1393

The loads in a stock 7.5" barreled SRH aren't all that bad actually.

My 4.25" barreled SRH does whip up a fair bit more than the 7.5" barreled SRH so like my 1200fps 405gr loads (I can actually push these to 1320fps in the shortened gun) I will design reduced velocity loads specifically for this gun.

Probably reduce each load by about 100fps each which will make this gun far more enjoyable/controlable to shoot...

So the 240's XTP-Mag's will then do about 1550fps, the 300gr XTP-Mag's will be about 1320fps, the 360's reduced to 1350fps and the 395gr's to about 1220fps...
