I just received a Sako Fiberclass that was rebarrelled in 7mm Remington Magnum and came with a Swarovski 2.5-10x42 Habicht scope with 30mm tube in Optilock rings. The reticle is in the first focal plane, so it changes size with magnification --- first time I've had one so will be interesting to try out.
The barrel is 26" stainless, and although it has no markings, I was told by the original owner that it was likely a McLennan, but who knows. The rebarrelling was done by a gunsmith named George Elliot (I believe that was the name I was told --- anyone heard of him?). I don't know what contour it is, but the muzzle is 0.785" and finished with a nicely recessed crown. Total weight of the rifle, scope, and unloaded magazine is 8lbs 12oz --- not as heavy as I would have thought given the 26" barrel and not-so light stock!
I was most interested in taking a look at the detachable magazine system. It uses the stock bottom metal with the floorplate, magazine spring, and follower removed. The magazines are held by the floorplate release. I received two magazines, each marked "SAKO Mag. Cal. Only \ One Piece Trig. Grd." The magazines are a single column design and hold 3 rounds (I didn't have any 7RM handy, so I used some 338 brass to verify the capacity).
Here are some closeups of the magazine system for those interested. Does anyone have a Sako that uses this system?
