Pictures of Zurich Rifle Run

Running 42.4 km with a rifle on the back. Sounds like a lot of fun. :D

Next weekend the local "rifle run" takes place. And there are always quite a few runners from the UK, France, Austria and Germany. Never saw any Canadians though.

Surprisigly they bring their own rifles. Didn't have the chance to talk to them last year though, had a few more important things in mind, like having a beer (or two), taking a shower and falling asleep after that. :D

Good idea Diopter,

Why don't you organize it? Bear in mind we are coming into Winter and we live in a country many times the size of CH. So would it be in the Spring and in several locations or in one central local where all CGN'rs could rally?

I would be interested.

I do it the german way, you swiss can have your Zürich Rifle Run, I say we have the München Rifle Race.

It'd be a two man effort of one man with driving fast through a course and his teammate hitting targets along the way.

Best time with completed target hits wins. hehehehe

Hey, Kelowna is Warm all Winter!! Do it here. I think if we could get people on board with 1km or even the 2.4(?)km required for the Military fitness thingy that would be a good way to raise some money for a good cause AND make us look good! Maybe organize it Simaltaniously with a few other cities?

Ich bin in ernst. It would be a really good way to show the public that firearms are a part of our society and have been with us for a long time, that responsible firearm owners are not a fringe element but rather an integeral part of Canadian society.
However a 10 K run would be more in line with the reality of most of our fitness levels. I weigh 155Lbs and can run and run but a 10K would do the trick as far as publicity is concerned. We could all get sponsorship and donate the money to veterans' organisations.

The Swiss firearms community are the majority. They are conservative (small ''c'') and responsible. Most Canadian firearm owners are the same. This would be a good way to be in the news in a positive way. Very good positive propoganda.

Was denken Sie?

Why not two distances. Everybody starts at the same time and there is a 5K line and a 10K line further ahead. The thing is that, to have some attention, the challenge must be challenging. A 5k, nobody will talk about us, dont forget that some people usually race marathon (42K) for good causes.

Just my 2¢

There are a quite a few issues that would need some looking into.

1) Permission from local Police and/or CFO.
2) Permission/Permit from Municipal authorities for use of roads and/or parks.
3) Volunteers from Veterans Legions and perhaps even local military and reserve units.
4) Sponsors for all the up front cost.
5) Medical units dictated by a large gathering of people.
6) Settling on a decent date for all involved.

If it can be treated it as a moving gunshow…… It just might be possible.
Shoots and gunshows are public events.
I wonder how much those trigger locks are going to rub?

I like the idea of a run/walk. That way it could be a family event.

why would we need permits or trigerlocks ? its non-restricted, we have official looking to make shure they are unloaded or even have a rule that say the bolt need to be in your pack.
