Pictures: removed Marlin 795 rear sight

I have a scope on my Marlin 795 and it is really close to the rear sight, so I wanted to remove it. Looking online, I could not find a definitive answer as to how to remove it. The sight appears to be crimped or pinned, but in fact is merely sitting in a dovetail. Two good whacks with a brass punch and a nylon mallet and she was out.

Yep, just drive it out to the right, or back in to the left. You can get a nice little machined blank insert now that will fill that gap, protect your fingers from the sharp edges, and protect the edges themselves from getting peened over. It goes in the same way as the sight.
