My son is looking for information on putting together a temperature controller for his 220 volt shot maker. He has not been able to find how to do this in his online searches.

I'm curious as to know if the regular SSR's and PID control modules will work properly if plugged into a 220V power source. Everything I have seen seems to be a 110V system. Or am I missing something here? Is there certain things that would need to be done differently or different parts to order?

As long as you get the proper SSR that is suitable for the control circuit voltage (eg millivolts or other low voltage) they can switch up to 600 VAC.

When I build heater controls for 208-240v system I generally use two relays. One for each of the hot legs. If you only use one there can be leak through that will cause the system to heat somewhat even when it is off. That's likely why the 120v systems are not rated for 240V.
 
A few more questions here from a still quite stumped non electrician...
the videos I found of the rex c100 all showed it being powered by 120V, would I only attach one legs of the 240 to the pid then?
Also, for the SSR would I just connect both hot legs to the same terminal space on the ssr?
 
another question is where do you mean to put the 2 pole switch? like get a 2 pole style ssr? Like stated before, I am still quite stumped. some of this stuff is a little over my head.
